Yellow tang

We just received our first shipment from Saltwaterfish.com, and followed the directions for acclimation. The fish have been in our 75 gallon aquarium which has been set up for 3 months, fully cycled. The yellow tang is swiimming backwards in circles. Is this normal behavior for a little while?
Thanks for any info.

well tangs get really stressed out very easy. I would turn them off for a while longer just to be on the safe side. Did you QT him before you put it in your display tank or no? What size tank is it and what else do you have in it?

In our 75 gallon tank with some live rock and ~100 lbs of livve sand, we had was a clown fish (not sure which kind), a yellow watchman goby. and one green chromis. We also have 10 blue legged hermit crabs. We are slowly building up to our goal of a reef tank. We added the tang, a coral beauty, 5 more chromis, 10 more blue legged hermits, 10 turbo snails and a serpentine starfish. And no, I didnt qt him...dont have a tank set up to do that

well he might just be stressed out. One other thing adding all that might make your bioload go nuts. Just watch out make sure hes doing good later on. Well good luck with him i hope you the best of luck. I jst got my order and i had some stuff lost. And some stuff didnt even arrive alive which kinda stinks.

Sorry bout your order, what a disappointment.

I have turned off the lights and we will keep an eye on everything. Thanks for the advice!

You added way to much fish too fast. The surest way to kill your tank is to be impatient. Aftre you cycled your tank,You should have waited a month or two before adding any fish, after that, you should only add one fish per month to let your bioload even out. At this point you should only have about 3 fish in your tank, if I counted correctly, you have 10. Too much too fast. Good luck.

Is the tang swimming backwards in an area by itself or is it swimming into other fish with its tail. Its normal for tangs to back their tail into other fish as a warning. If its doing this to the glass then it could just be its reflection its warning but if by itself then its strange.

You added too many too fast. At 3 month, your tank is still fairly young. Your bio-load needs to catch up!!!!!!! Better check your water's parameter closely right now!!! Do water changes when it's needed. You can add some stablility to your tank to help with bacteria. Good Luck!!! :happyfish
