Yellow tang

Last two weeks my powerheads have been spitting a million micro bubbles. I've taken them apart and cleaned them, changed flow rate, all without fixing them. While all of this has been going on, my largest yellow tang has been hiding in a cave, refusing to come out or eat. I ordered new powerheads to fix one problem - now the large tang has been coming out for the last three days. Problem is that my smaller yellow tang has decided that he now owns the tank and has been savagely attacking the larger yellow tang. I've turned out the lights for most of the last three days, rearranged rocks and still the smaller one is beating the larger one. The large tang is now looking disoriented. They have been fine together for two years and now this. I got both of them from a friend, so they were together before that. How long do I let this go on before I take one to the pet store?

were these guys removed from the tank while you rearranged the rocks? At the very least I would remove the aggressor and try it that way. As far as how long to wait.. that is pretty much a judgement call for you to make. Do you wait until there is injury? or do you get one out asap? One more day they may settle down or get worse - it's anyones guess. GL

I have had very good luck with removing the rowdy badboy to a qt for 10-14 days. Rearrange the rocks and let the one that is timid regain its courage. Then you can add the one back in. Consider this time out. This is assuming that your water conditions are in check and this is not an environmental distress sign.
