I've had one for over a year. He (I call him a he) doesn't come out very often - except when its feeding time, but when he's out, he's very cool. Probably one of my favorite fish I've ever had. Great personality.
As far as your set-up, as long as there are a few hiding places within the rock and substrate and you can insure that food will get to him, you should be fine.
I typically feed a combination of frozen brine, prime reef, frozen bloodworms, mysis shrimp and enriched brine. He seems to eat whatever combination I provide.

I also have a yellow watchman goby. I feed mine frozen brine, flake, and dried seaweed. Hes an awesome little fish with alot of personality. He will leave his little home to take a poo and then come back in when he is done.
you have to be careful though because they love to jump. They will tolerate many water conditions and they are real hardy and fun to watch.
I hope you like him, and good luck :cheer:

We have a one eyed watchman goby. One day we noticed his eye just hanging there. Looked like he got in a fight with something. He ended up losing it and the socket is now covered. Only thing is that when he is out and "watching", he keeps his good eye toward his hole and not outward. So he never sees anything coming up on him. It makes for interesting viewing for us though!
And he'll eat anything we throw in. Formula 1, Formula 2, brine, flake, even pieces of the silverside we feed the reef lobster.
