Dwarf Angels are known to pick at soft coral. They don't eat it entirely, but every now and then pick. so they should be allright in the long run, with little to no damage depending on tank variables . clams could possibly be slightly problematic depending on type and hardiness. So if monitered, you shouldn't have that many problems. But variables such as tank size (bigger=less problems), hunger, and other fish presence affect your fish's outlook on these things. Summed-up you should be ok if small things like shrimps aren't present and you excerise caution at first while keeping it well fed. PS. I messed up the quick-reply options, so this is a response to nycbob, not a statement of my own.

does anyone keep any kind of dwarf angel in their reef? i'd really like to hv one, but would like to see which one tend to hv better success of not picking at corals and clams.

I've heard the christmas island reef angel is reef safe. My friend at the l.f.s says so at least. They have tons of color and are supposed to be easy to care for? If not I'll swap him with a coral beauty, or a pygmy.

I have a coral beauty angel in my reef. I've had him for about 2 years now. He's a in a smallish, max stocked tank, and I've had very minimal problems. He nips at my open brain, and very occasionally nips at some zoa's. I've never actually seen him do any damage at all, ever. Mine is from fiji, not hawaii as most CB's are. In my limited experience, I'd say dwarf angels are fine.
