Yes, another lighting question. Don't hate me

I have 1 hood that holds 2 lights. I went to my LFS, so I could get better lighting. The guy there said that my hood would only hold bulbs up to 40W. Could I have put like 2 110W
bulbs in? What he was saying, is it true?

The wattage is based on the type ballast that it has. If the ballast has a rating for 2 - 40w lamps then this is all that it will work with. Putting a higher wattage will prevent the ballast from providing the power needed to operate the 110w lamps at their maximum. Most standard fixture that come with tanks only handle the standard 40w lamps. For higher wattages you'll need to purchase VHO, PC, MH type ballast fixtures. Hope this explains it clearly.
