I have been doing a lot of searching on this board to try to determine the best possible route to solve a potential ich problem. I first noticed this problem on Friday, and haven’t introduced anything new into the tank for about week, which was a small plate corral.
The first issue that I have is it ICH or some other parasite / disease. The fish which is a hippo tang very small one at that maybe 2” long. It exhibits all the classic signs, heavy gilling, white spots the size of salt grains, all over his body. Mainly on top of his head, lower fins and ridge of his back, scratching on the rocks. But is eating very well, Garlic soaked food, and making frequent visits to my cleaner shrimp.
This is a reef tank with about 200lbs of LR, none of my other fish are exhibiting any signs as of yet. I know the first response is going to be take the fish out and put him in qt and treat with copper of hypo. One I don’t have a qt and if I did it would have to be large enough for the fish I have, also to get all the fish out I would have to take out all the LR and corral to get them all out. I do not see the benefit of taking one fish out of the tank when the ich is still in the main tank. Take one fish out, and the rest my fish may look fine but could have ich in the gills, this could be a never ending battle. I would think my only options are to first diagnose what the problem is then, treat the whole tank and all the fish?
What do you think and I off base?
Thanks.
