Yet another lighting question

Ok, so here's the deal... Within the next 6 months, I plan on upgrading to a 240 gallon aquarium (72"w x 24"d x 31"h) and At this point, I am trying to figure out what configuration of lights to go with. I am stuck because my largest endeavor thus far is an 84 gallon reef, and lighting this bad boy would seem to be a bit tougher..
I want to be able to keep all types of corals and inverts, and would ideally like to keep the price of the fixture as low as possible, without being cut rate, knowing you get what you pay for.
Keeping that in mind, what configuration would you suggest and by what manufacturer?
Thanks in advance.

3x400w halide. 31" of water is going to be tough for T5 to penetrate (cheaply).
The nice thing about halide is that you can build the fixtures relatively inexpensively. If you are somewhat good with electricity, you can DIY a solution for under $250 excluding lamps.

Pretty solid with electricity, and pretty solid DIY'er, usually. On;y problem I have is where to track down parts for such a solution, but I'll see what I can do.
The 3x400 MH will be enough light for all corals? I know the watt rule is somewhat by the wayside, but I just want to make sure I can keep everything.
Also, I have 4x96 VHO that I can DIY into the canopy as well (building the canopy, so I can do anything I want.), so as to add some other color spectrum, so that should add a little more light, sound ok?
Thanks again for the input.
