OKAY...here's the deal...I bought a 50G rubbermaid toughneck trashcan for water changes ....well.....I am in the process of making the water now. I have about 35g's in the can...OMG the trash can seems to be bowing

The trash can has wheels....wheels that are not IN FRONT...WHEELS that are slightly under the trash can...AND THEY ARE PLASTIC WHEELS
WHAT WAS I THINKING...I never really noticed the wheels

OK...so I now have the trash can leaning against something really sturdy....I will do this waterchange tomorrow, and then NEVER use this can again....I will go to the store next week and buy a HEAVY DUTY CAN WITH RUBBER WHEELS that are in front of can...
SOOOOOOO the tip here is....do not buy a trash can with plastic wheels that are under the can......it does not balance

Yes, put tank in wall and have a maintainence area behind it. Installed a sink that drians out of my house(not to septic) ran water to sink and ro/di. Everything right there. It's fantastic!!

I have a 35G...that never bowed either

Hmmm yeah, I dk.
When I bought my first trash can, I assumed that they were all water tight.
They are not all water tight.

Because Brutes are designed to be filled with liquids
, as well as trash. They should have a 'NSF' stamp on the bottom indicating they're 'Food Safe' for human consumpation. The fact they're cylindrical helps too. Water in square bins cause uneven pressure and they bow. Where cylinders distribute the force of the water evenly. That's why those 1000gal water storage tanks are round...
Though that doesn't necessarily mean they're safe for tanks. A lot of debates on this one, basically that Brutes or any trash cans leech phosphates into your water. Humans can tolerate phosphates well, so any numbers the FDA sees, doesn't matter for the Food Safe rating. RO/DI water is acidic, so there's some validity to it. Search for "Eric Bornemen Brute" for more info.
Just FWIW, I use 2 Brutes, a 32gal for saltwater make up, 44gal for storage. I have not experienced phosphate issues....

Well look who is so very smart!

Thanks for the info. I know I learned something.
Does that mean a round tank would be stronger than my 55 rectangle? (but for different reasons because it has no seams!! lol)
I have stored my water in my bin for like weeks at a time, and I don't have issues with phosphates at this point...
Good to know! Thanks!

I use the cheap round can with no wheels . I make about 1/3 of my water by my sink and then drag the can to the tank in my living room, it slides easy. Then I use a 3g jug and fill it with RO and dump those into the can until I have it at the right amount I want.
My RO unit fills the holding tank slow. So it is an all day process anyway. So every time I get 3g, I add it to the can.

WELL I just re-scrubbed my 35G with vinegar...seems to have gotten the white residue out (bleach did not) SOOOO I guess I will be using this one again....can't do a w/c until next weeekend though...I have company coming tomorrow
AND THIS thread explains why I most likely will not be doing one today :(

I would never ever tell someone to do something illegal BUT if you have a local waste management that supply's you with plastic large capacity cans and for some reason someone takes yours they will supply you with a brand new one AND they have wheels
