just heard on the news that congress is demanding the bonuses back... if they dont give it up voluntarily the IRS will tax them 100% on the bonus!!!
170 million is enough to give 750k to EVERY tax paying citizen over 18... wish congress would look at that...
for the record this was not fueled by the P word... it was about the greed and our tax dollars going to waste!!!

there are over 170 million adults in the U.S. You may want to check your math. About a single dollar, give or take, for every tax paying citizen.......

You think all adults pay taxes? I bet far less than half actually pay taxes. Not sure about his math, but not sure about yours either.

The population of the U.S. is currently 304 million. Google it.
Slice it up any way you want, you are not going to get over 2 dollars per person if you have 170 million dollars to distribute.
Actually, I just googled the amount of taxpayers in the U.S. and it is 134 million. So that is $1.27 per taxpayer, not $750,000.00.

I am shocked to see politics here

I don't think a bill written so narrowly would stand a constitutional challenge. Remember the case of that brain dead woman in Florida where the Congresse passed a law to allow the family to go into federal court to challenge her husband wanting to turn off the machine? I don't remember her name but it was all over the news.
Anyway a federal judge ruled a law couldn't be written in a way that targeted a specific group or individual.
Hopefully some sort of deal can be reached where the right thing gets done. We already paid for BofA to buy out another bank and several other goodies.

It's just so grossly INSIGNIFICANT I really wonder if people literally are out there just to fly off the handle when they see numbers big to them....
AIG received $152 Billion in taxpayers money. All of these 'horrendous' bonuses total $175 Million. Anyone wanna take a stab what percentage $175,000,000 is of $152,000,000,000? Try just fractionally more then one tenth, of 1 percent, 0.115%"
Same thing with all of those borderline-apocalypse-causing earmarks in the stimulus package, they only totaled 2% of the entire bill. Is the 2%, really the concern?

If you gave every taxpayer $750k, of that $170mill, you better have only 226.6 taxpayers

:
You are saying $175 milllion is a small # compared to 152 billion, fair enough....That doesn't make it ok to spend the money inappropriatly. That is certainly not how the money was intended to be spent. It's thinking like that which makes the government so inefficient spending money.

I just saw a blurb about how the politicians said the earmarks in the spenduless bill didn't matter because they only amounted to about 2% of the spending. The bonuses were around .1% of the bailout and suddenly the sky is falling?

Not necessarily a sudden thing, buy the sky isn't as far away as it once was. It is incrementally creeping up (down) on us.

But that is due to global warming....an entirely different problem..................................................................(sarcasm off)
