YWG disappeared

Hello. My tank has been set up about 6 months now, and I had gotten a YWG that has been in the tank about 3 mos. He always came right up to the glass when he saw a person. About 2 wks ago I added a firefish who shared his cave, and now it's been about 4 days since I've seen him. I am very upset about this, he is Mr. Personality in my tank. I have not recovered a body. Is this normal for the fish to 'disappear' or something else? Thanks

Okay...I admit I don't do much text talk...what is a YWG...LOL..I assume something yellow...G for goby? since it hides in a cave?

Many fish get a little shy when a new one is introduced...but a firefish is usually not that kind of fish to hide from. If you have a good CUC...you won't find a body, eating the dead is their job (prevents an ammonia spike too)....So I wouldn't go dismantling the tank to look for it. Do look hard to see if you can find it, and check the ammonia daily for a week to be sure there are no spikes...if you find a body, remove it.

I have had fish disappear, I was sure it had to be dead...then a month later there it would be...

Me too. I had this tiny clown goby, not even an inch long. Put him in the tank and never saw him again until we moved 2 years later. found him alive when I moved the tank.
From my experience YWG like to be out watching everything that is going on in the tank.

Not seeing a fish in 2 years...that's really bad. That happened with a fire shrimp I had...we were taking out rock and it fell off onto the floor...quick scoop and he was okay...I hadn't seen that critter for years either

I had a YWG disappear after it had been in the tank for about a year. One day it was there, the next... it was gone. Haven't seen it in over a year, and I'd be extremely surprised if it suddenly appeared! :eek:
