I recently purchased a zebra eel from my lfs. He devours frozen krill, but seems indifferent to any other kind of food. Any suggestions for a little variety in his diet? Thanks.
What else have you offered?
Things to try;
silversides, chopped shrimp, crab, scallop, squidd, clam.
Most will eat any type of crustacean flesh. Krill is okay but shouldn't be a staple in their diet.
have offered clam, silversides, frozen brine shrimp (while feeding other fish) i would try raw shrimp or clams, but have no fish market nearby where everything has not been cooked.
i understand that krill should not be a staple, and that variety is essential, but what in the opinions out there is the best thing for him?
have you tried a feeding stick? we've had our zebra about 6 mos. and have found it to be a big help. we just get frozen uncooked shrimp from our local grocery store, thaw it, and cut it into appropriately sized bite-sized pieces. just stick it on the feeding stick and put it right in front of his mouth, this works for us... he prefers the shrimp, but we change it up every once in a while for some variety.
good luck!
variety that leans toward crustacean and cephlopods(sqiud) over fish (still can be fed) try not feeding it for a little longer than usual and then keep offering it anything but krill till you can get it to eat more things
my zebra eats everything any anything
silversides, krill, mysis, marine cuisine, table shrimp, squid,
hes really unusual not only does he eat every thing but hes very agressive feeder and isnt shy at all he comes out of his hiding spot all the time just to check out whats happening in the tank
