Zebra Eels and Crabs

I currently have my zebra eel on a cook tiger shrimp diet soaked in garlic guard and selcon. I have added live ghost shrimp and pepper shrimp, but he befriends (unfortunately this friendship is short lived due to the lion fishies jealousy :p). I want to add a cruncher diet, because I want to keep his teeth in good shape. I was thinking of getting a small crab to see if he will eat it. My only concern is that he is 5 years old now and been tank raised since he was just a few inches (he was sooo cute ^^ now he is 3.5 feet long and tamer than a kitten). My only concern is that, because of his extremely timid nature that the crab might actually hurt the eel. I have also been informed that they may eat oysters or clams. I know due to parasites that I must freeze them for a few weeks before feeding. At the same time I am concerned that if he does not exercise his jaw and teeth with hard shells that they were design for that eventually they will weaken. Considering he is 5 years old now there is no way I can test to see if his teeth have already weakened. Any suggestions in this area would be helpful.

why don't you just buy raw shrimp with the shell on? I'm pretty sure that will provide the "crunch" you are looking for. Also, I heard it was not good to feed fish cooked food, but that's just what I heard, but if it worked for this long, then why not.

He refuses to eat the tail of the shrimp. Don't ask me why he refuses...i think he has been babied for so long that he is just picky :p

I never heard of an eel's teeth weakening, so IMO I don't think it's a major thing to worry about. Maybe try feeding him dead crabs instead of live

Cooked food is bad. You are cooking the nutritious stuff out that the eel needs always buy uncooked sea food.

I agree. You shouldn't cook the food, it removes a lot of nutrients. In the ocean they eat the fish and shrimp raw, not cooked.

He took to the scallop like candy. I had no problems feeding the raw shrimp. He has never had uncooked meat so I will be weaning him slowly over so I don't shock his digestion system.
