Zero Edge Aquariums

I was at a fairly nice 'coral propogation' farm recently and saw my first
'zero edge' aquarium. Very nice. The water flows up thru the center and overlows the tank sides into a collecting pan that sits under the aquarium edge and returns the water thru a drain back into the sump/skimmer area.
Anyone have one? If so, what are your thoughts about them?

I don;t have one but am buying the one form my LFS in the near future. I was there when they brought it in and its setup now for a month plus. They are awsome. I was worried at first though about my shepherd walking by and grabbing a drink but I soon found out once they get a drink of salt water they dont come back for seconds :).
You do have to clean both sides of the tank which is not difficult as their is nothing above it to remove. you do have to be careful what you put into it as jumpers are gonna jump. If you hit the zero edge website you can see their different sizes or check out planet reef in saint louis forums 9 nothing is for sale on there they make it seperate so anyone can post anything on it) they have pics posted off theirs ( the one im workin momma into buying )
The best thing about them is everything is underneath. I want to remove my 72 inch hdmi tv out of my living room my coffee table and put that in the middle of my couches etc and just sit and watch it all day and night.

Thanks for the insight. Are you concerned about evaporation and having to 'top off' constantly?

Algae on both sides of the glass

Actually the set up I saw had no sigh of algae. I was told that the flow is uniform enough on both sides that little to none develops?!? No idea if this is true.

I add a gal of water my 75 everyday i would imagine in my house it would be the same. I run egg crate tops so same as being open. I just added a 10 gal under my tank with a 10 dollar pump and a bobber. when my water drops the bobber drops in my wet/dry and it turn on the water from my 10 gal making it so much easier now I refill the 10 gal once a week and never have to check to see if the water level is right cost me 14 dollars and 15 min to setup

If you let the water get low you have no flow making it a algae mess as was the case when the LFS was closed down due to weather for three days. He used the pad on it took him 2 minutes and topped off the tank not a problem since.

Those are awesome, but I see them working well in an environment where you do not have anything near by that could fall in.
If you go to zero edge aquarium dot com you can view a movie. nice!!

Yeah..Very nice....I think it would be great in the middle of my living room, but I do worry about top offs/cleaning...my wife would not be too happy with salt/water on 'her' carpet

The trick is to let them name the fish.
Merely having to put up with a blue hippo named "Dory" scored me a 180g
reef.

I must say that it would not work on 99% of females. Am I sensing a bit of thought there that us women are that simple??
At least in our household that same train of thought does not work. If hubby would let me come up with the custom license plate for every single car he buys, we'd have a used car lot. NOT!

Well admittedly there are a few other caveats I had to agree to, not the least of which was a moratorium on new tanks into the forseeable future.
My fiance is also very accomodating.

Yeah, it's all about compromises :) We are lucky to both be into SW, well.. I guess addicted is a better description of our condition right now

I told her it was her v day gift she still is not buying it. Since I took her after her surgery all doped up to get it
Anyway, if you go zero edge lemme know as I am working on getting the one from my LFS and would like to know what all it entails as to setup etc.
