my zoas are all random heights and spaced out. not all pretty like other peoples' ive seen. how do ya get em like the ones in the pic? is it just ones with like super short stems thatve like, reproduced so much that theyre mooshed together? super bright lights so they dont have to stretch?

pics of my ugly zoas? or the nice ones? i actually started wonderin about it when i saw your new zoa pics, flricordia, cause yours look so nice. well heres what mine look like. *cringe*

ok you cant really tell from that pics, but theyre really uneven. some are about 3/4 inch tall, others are like, flat against the rock.

With strong light its just a matter of time before your rock looks like the first one you pictured. They will fill in tighter and faster with good light. I learned that when i switched lighting, my zoa rocks started really filling in.

WHat type lighting do you have? Give some details about your tank. Size, flow, etc. They don't look bad at all. Nice color.

theyre under t5s (nova extreme). theyre supposed to be in my 55, but it sprung a leak. so right now theyre in a 20L with a good abount of even flow. perfect parameters, no algae. theyre about 7 inches away from the light.

Alix, once theyre in their spots for a while, theyll start adjusting to the lights and such. Ive seen zoas that just spread out over the rock and leave huge gaps too, but once they reproduce theyll fill the gaps.
As for stem length, see how they react to your lights in their final location and itll get longer/smaller.

even if you have descent lights you can put them in the sandbed and they will have nowhere to spread so they will cover the entire rock really tight
