Zoa Pox

I have an infected colony which I am trying to cure using Furan 2 dips. The protocol states to dip for 20 minutes each of 3 days and let the colony rest 1 week. I have done the 3 dips, here are the pics:

Yes it seems to be the only treatment. Most of the time it needs repeating in about a week... Here is another example on some of my Tubs from last year. Good Luck...........

Here is the pic from today, I don't think I will do any further dips as the pox seem to be gone. I think the individual polyps will open with in a week.

Awesome thread. Keep updating it if you can; it is cool to watch the recovery and will be helpful to anyone who has zoas that are infected.

It;s Zoa Pox, no one is quite sure where it comes from but most people think a colony can not recover from it.
P.S. Your avatar scares me

Yes the cause or source of the original infection is sometimes a mystery for Pox. A seemingly healthy colony may just all of a sudden come down with the curse. It can easily spread to other colonies, especially ones close by.... I have had some luck with some and total failure with others over time. I think there are other factors not understood well about the causes and the extreme treatment required to kill the infection without killing the Zoas...........
As to the cure being successful only time will tell, many times they never fully recover and occasionally they do. I had a large colony of Reds and Greens that where treated at the same time on about a 4 inch base....... Over time many of the Greens came back but only a few of the Red ones ever recovered. Why did the Greenies live and the Reds did not on the same rock?? I haven't a clue..
If I ever have a future infection I think separation of the individual heads as much as I could (regardless of the size of the colony ) into small "fragable" pieces and treatment would then follow. Any frag groups that where not responding then could be eliminated easier giving the others a better chance of survivability.....................I may be in error, but from observation, less tightly packed colonies seem to have a better chance of treatment success........ Yours may fall into this category from your pictures, not being closely spaced........
Keep us updated on your success or lack there off over time. The total recovery rate is low, I hope you beat the odds. But I do think additional dips maybe needed. I had a colony I lost thinking that the initial dips had cured it...... Wrong!! .......It returned with a vengeance and then it was too late for that colony.
Sometimes like here with a Bacteria, or with fungi and viruses they are just too hard to kill with out doing in the host critter.
Good Luck....... Warren

Here is a photo as of today, there are no visible signs of pox, just grains of sand. I did one additional dip. I think I can count this as a success.

mixed 1/2 cup tank water with 1 pkt furan 2, soaked zoas for 20 minutes days 1, 2 and 3. Rinsed in tank water, shook and placed back in tank. Let rest for 1 week, at this point the colony looked fine but I did one final soak for 10 minutes on day 7.
