Zoos in Trouble

Couldn't find exactly my situation, so wanted to post a note, in hopes that someone could help me out.
We bought our first zoo rock a couple of weeks ago. However, regardless of where we move it, it looks like you-know-what. Many of the polyps just are not opening...they look like big pimples (sorry, but that's the best description I could come up with on the spur of the moment!)
Does anyone know what I may check, to save this?
Thanks.

It sounds like you're moving them around quite a bit. Try to keep them in the same spot for a few weeks and then see how they do.

My reading are ok, with the exception of my Nitrates, which are way to high (80ppm). I got an Anthias (which is doing great) the day I got the zoos, and have probably been feeding too much, since I know anthias need multiple feedings per day. I also have a bio-wheel, which I have heard can be a Nitrate trap, so it's going bye-bye.
I am running a pair of MH 175W 14000K bulbs.
Any ideas on what I can do to drop the Nitrates, short of cutting back on my feedings, and ditching the bio-wheel? Can zoos bounce back, or is this colony a goner? It's been in the tank about 2 weeks.

What are the other tank specs (ammonia nitrite nitrate ph alk temp calcium)?? How old is your setup?? How did you acclimate and how long?? Is this rock on the bottom of your tank??

All my other readings are 0. My ph is around 8.4. Temp is 78. I don't have a calc meter yet. We acclimated for about an hour, per our LFS. and initially put it at the bottom of the tank. We have moved it around, trying to see if it needed more or less light, and more or less water flow. The tank has been up and running, with no loss of life, for about 5 months. I was told, on an earlier posting, that I could go ahead and add some easy corals, with this set-up.

Specs are okay. I would try leaving the z00s on the lower 1/3 of tank for less light and med-med high flow. Give it a week and don't keep moving them and see what happens. I've had zoos not open for days after a fish would sit on them or pick at it a bit. If they are near any other soft corals, might want to watch out for chemical attacks on each other (mushrooms or toadstools). Run some carbon just in case for a few days.
Good luck.

Will do...thanks.
Obviously, this is most frustrating :notsure: . I buy a fish (the Anthias) that is supposed to be very persnickity, and he eats like a horse. I buy a coral that is supposed to be almost dummy-proof, and it's close to becoming a very expensive chunk of rock.
Considering this is our first, and only piece of coral, it's gonna make me VERY leery about buying another one!!!!

Nitrates at 80 ppm? They should be much lower,0 would be better.Zoanthids will not open if they have direct current on them.

Hey perfect post. I just got some Zoos from here, and they haven't opened up yet either. I may have them in direct flow, so tomorrow I will check that. A select few of them open up and they are beautiful. I hope that they all will open up soon. They are on the bottom and all my readings are 0, (well Nitrates may be up to as high as 20-30, but not often.) Hopefully I just have them in too much flow and a slight move will fix that.

I was trying to help, every time I come here it reminds me why I dislike it so much.

I certainly did not mean to upset you. I was just pointing out that, by telling them something they obviously already know, it probably makes them feel that much worse...and maybe makes them dislike the forums also.
We're all here to help!
