first time posting but have been in the hobby a few years.. I currently have a well established 55 gal reef and I recently lost a Diamond Goby that I had since I set the tank up. My question is could a Diamond Goby and a Yellow Watchman Goby get along in this setting.

    Welcome to the site....
Only one goby...make a choice, they compete for the same food and will fight. a 55g is not large enough for them to stay out of each others way.

JMO. In my 90 gallon. I have a diamond and a watchman. They get along fine. They have been together for about a year now and I have seen them once look each other in the face and open there mouths, and that is all. But that is just my 2.

Well, I will go with you...the voice of experience...I am going by what I read. My book says only one goby type fish per tank. So I only ever had one type at any given time.

Dragonets stand alone as dragonets. However gobies and dragonets fight for food....My diamond goby killed my mandarine in one day. So I know they don't mix.

diamond gobies get pods? I thought there were scavengers filtering food from the sand bed. mine even eats nori...

Diamonds are the most aggressive goby I've seen, and I'm sure others will attest to this as well. That being said, if you had them in the tank together for awhile and no aggression, one just may have died from natural causes. I've read in books that two different types of gobies can't be kept in the same tank, but then hear millions of people say they do it without a problem. It depends on how much food is available for them. IMO, two sand sifting gobies in a 55G might be too much, especially as they grow and require more food, so you may have had an aggression based death. I have two yellow watchman and they're fine together. They chase each other occasionally, but then sleep in the same cave, so who knows.
As to gobies and dragonets being together, absolutely CAN be done. I have two watchman and a mandarin with no problems. I've also had a Dragon Goby with a mandarin without an issue. Most of the time your sand sifters are not going to eat copepods, unless they're starving.
