Good or Bad algae??

Ive been noticing some red algae growing arownd my tank recently and i thought it was cyano, but now its starting to like shelf off of the rock, so im wondering if it may be some type of corraline...If it is bad, how do i get rid of it??...Thanks in advance...Hunt

i would guess from those options it looks most like peyssonnilia...(kinda hard to tell from my ipod screen though, lol)

I was thinking the same thing, BUT since you see it live I thought you could match it up better

That's what it is. People actually pay money for this stuff! I've paid upwards of $60 for a 1lb rock with it on it in hopes of getting it to grow in one of my tanks.

YES!!!!!!! thats a huge relief...i thought it would en up being some kind of invasive bad algae because of how much there is...so how long does it usually take to grow??? i havnt added anything for a long time, and im just now seeing the stuff...also, how big do they get?

Wish I knew. I gave up, my tangs kept eating it on me.

I have it all over my tank too. At first I thought it was cyano as well because the tank is too new for coraline. I have some red/purplish looking shelf algae as well.

awesome, thanks for help/info everyone....now to do some research on the stuff...my biggest question is why its only just now showing up
