    mail order lr

That is up to you. If you find a crdible mail-order lr place you will get quality live rock. The only advantage to paying premium prices is that you get to look at a lot of lr and pick to shape of the rock. There is also no chance of the rock getting lost at the airport.(this has happened to...

    green alge

Algae arer very simple plants and need the same things are more complex ones. Nutrients and light. Since the light is kinda necessary lets look at the nutrients. Each algae has a slightly different preference on the exact type of nutrients they prefer to use as fertilizer, but they all need...

Mantis Shrimp & Bristleworms bad for lions, puffers, etc

You should not worry about bristle worms at all and the only reason to be afraid of a mantis shrimp is f you get stuck with a big one. Otherwise shrimp is on the menu for your fish.

    Clownfish & Xenia

There are three different types of carpet anenomes and tomato clowns are not naturally atrracted to any of them. On a rare occasion they will use carpet anenomes, but very rarely. That is why they are ignoring it. To them it is just another thing in the tank, nothing speacial...

    Maintaining Calcium levels

Reef builder alone will only add enough calcium for a lightly stocked tank. I a more heavily stocked tank you would need to use Reef Advantage also. Kalkwasser does more than the Reef builder though. Kalwasser is calcium hydroxide. This means when added to your tank in stray ions bond with...

    72 gallon

When you say coral, is it live coral? If so bio-wheels are horrible and build up large amounts of nitrates. If it is dead coral then it depends on how many fish you want. If you are going to want a heavy fish load I would invest in a canister filter and either live rock or a sand filter.

    Bad Hermits???

I have never heard of a hermit crab that eats corraline algae. Most red legged varieties are reef safe. I guess it could be a hermit crab, but I would look for small sea urchins first. They are notorious for eating corralline algae.

    Fish wont eat!

I have had a canary blenny in my reef for about four years and he has never even looked at food in flake or pellet form. The only freeze-dried food he eats is plankton. The majority of his diet is frozen food, which he has taken since the day I got him :D .

    Will a tatler bass work?

Can I put about 5 tatler basses (serranus phoebe) in this tank? I have a 180 gallon deepwater tank. It is lit by 6 36" atinic blue bulbs and 2 36" 50/50 bulbs. Readings are: pH - 8.4 temp - 73 F ammonia, nitrite - 0 nitrate - 20-40 The tank contains 12 one-fin flashlight fish, 3 pineapple...

    firefish

I have mixed the two in a 40 gallon tank before. I did have 5 red and 4 purple firefish. They chased eachother, but no damage was ever done. I would be hessitant to add one with just one firefish they would probably kill eachother, I have never tried it with such a small number of firefish...

Frog Spawns (And a big thank you)

Mal is right. Just hand the food to the frogspawn and it will eat it. Feeding one head does not give nutrition to the others though. Each head is its own polyp and since their is no connecting tissue to pass food through each head is on its own.

poll: whats your favorite reef safe fish?

-Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse -3" -brine shrimp, plankton, bloodworms, sseaweed, and anything else I throw into the tank. -Open water cruising around the tank in school fashion looking for food nonstop. At night each one goes to its own little bolt hole.

Is my cabbage Leather getting burnt??

Sounds like its doing fine. As long as it keep opening and does not whither or rot it should be fine don't worry about it for now. UV burns usually result in tissue damage and even small holes burning right through the coral tissue, this is a larger problem in clams than corals though.

    cant get calcium level up

I have tried Kent's CB additive for a month and all my Ca did was go from 435 to 350. I have never had luck with two part calcium additives and am kind of biased against them. I like using calcium hydroxide (a.k.a. kalkwasser) and calcium carbonate on my tanks. My only question is why your...

    Koran Angel info

Koran angels are not reef friendly for a long page of reasons. They get large, will eat fan worms, sponges, lps corals, clam mantles and most soft corals; just to name a few reasons  . On another note Koran angels change color as they grow up. When full grown Koran angels are not only...
