Does it make sense to use bio-pellets and activated carbon at the same time?

My mistake.I just went to my garage and the lamps with builtin reflectors are T8 not T5. My T5 are HO wich should be ok I think...

Is this Light Fixture a good one?

So, lets say I have one, if I use it until the ballast and lamps start dying and then replace the original ballast with electronic HO T5 and buy a MH ballast for the type of HQI lamp that it uses then it should keep working fine right? Basically, I should be able to retrofit it when the...

Is this Light Fixture a good one?

I have a 60g tank, no canopy and I wonder if this is a good alternative for reef lighting? I also have been looking around to see what FC2 means, I guess is the lamp configuration? Are they expensive? I've seen all kind of prices from too cheap to too expensive, whats the catch? Any input would...

    Sump fuge setup

Very good memory SCSInet. It is the same control box that you saw some time ago, maybe 2 years and it is still up and running without problems. My next addition to it will be two 24v water sensors that will be located under my overflow box and under my return hose just in case any water comes out...

    Sump fuge setup

Almost two weeks ago I removed my old canister filter and replaced with this new setup. Basically every concept was taken from this forum but I wonder if I am missing something before I start spending money on corals. I am using 2 96 watts compact fluorescent lamps (10,000,6700 and actinic...

Keep in mind that smart relays are not designed for aquariums, this is just a generic solution to a lot of automation problems related to them so i am not sure how far you can make it work. You can also check out the reef keeper II but you are talking about $$$ now.

Yes,just have to use an input to monitor the power and if power fail just keep using upc and program the relay to kill everything but the power heads until power comes back on assuming that upc will last until then.

Hey Dave, after reading part of your thread on the 180g tank i noticed that you can take advantage of a smart relay (PLC)and you don't have to worry about any internal components like transistors, capacitors, resistors or anything like that. All you need to use is a bunch of inputs like...

You can also get a winlgc demo so you can try it before you buy it.Always use the "function blocks" to program,it is a lot easyer than latter schematic.

The reason why i am using a metal box is because that one cost me $39.00 dollars and it wasn't available made out of plastic at such a nice price. Also,i have everything in the same box because this specific relay is 120v and you shouldn't run 120v exposed to it.I also want to say that with this...

Yes,it is a basic plc if you want to call it that way but it is not as complicated to work with. This is the one that is capable of doing the job.You won't need the small display in it.For big programs it is completely useless, you will need a computer to program it.You can buy the relay,software...

I am using a smart relay programmed using winlgc sofware,a thermostat, float switch and a pair of relays and transformer to be able to use 24v around water for safety reasons.I know,i make it sound easy and in fact it isn't that hard.I am an electrician but all this automation stuff i learned...

I have an idea that i want to share with others to see how it can be improved. I built a control box to automate the most common tasks when you own a saltwater aquarium. 1-It simulate the day light cycle by turning lights on at different time intervals. This function also controls a moon light...
