    Snake's Guide to Cycling

I honestly don't know what kind of sand it is. The fish store guy put it in there to add to what I already have. All he said was it was "dry sand" and that I couldn't use live sand because it would cycle again. I use all premixed saltwater from the LFS and top off with RODI or distilled. I put...

    Snake's Guide to Cycling

Yeah, we talked about this a few weeks ago. My parents surprised me with a new tank for my birthday and it showed up at my front door with my LFS guy ready to help me switch them out. So I didn't argue haha.

    Snake's Guide to Cycling

So I had a 72 gal FOWLR for 4 years and 2 weeks ago I upgraded to a 130. I don't have space for 2 tanks so I had to take the old one down and replace it. I washed my old sand, used my old water, my old live rock (about 65lbs) and added 2 more bags of dry sand, 30 more pounds of live rock and...

    Anthias

Good to know. I definitely try to avoid fish that require multiple feedings per day. Sometimes I don't even like feeding once a day.

    Anthias

Since we're on the topic of Anthias, I'll add my question on here. *********** suggests a minimum 125 gallons. Is that for a group? Is it okay to keep a single male in a smaller (72gal) tank? I am restocking after my brutal maroon clown serial killer finally died. Going for a more peaceful...

    Cleanup Crew on aisle 75gal

I have a 72gal and my cleanup crew started with 10 blue leg hermits and 10 astrea snails. Hermits are .99 each and the snails are $2 at my LFS. I now have 2 emerald crabs, a peppermint shrimp and a chocolate chip sea star but that's just because I think they're cool. So far no one has starved to...

    Tank upgrade

I don't have the space to have both tanks running at the same time. Gonna have to take the old one down and replace it with the new one. So effectively doing a 100% water change has no ill effects?

    Tank upgrade

Good point. I was already picturing the brown cloud from hell that would be released.

    Sea star compatible reef?

I've had a 72gal FOWLR for a little over 4 years now and have been thinking about experimenting with corals. I have a chocolate chip sea star and I understand that they will eat soft corals. My question is, how about "hard" corals or polyps? Does anyone have successful reef stories including a...

    Tank upgrade

I currently have a 72gal bow front FOWLR and inverts. I may be upgrading to a bigger tank in the near future. Any tips for the best way to do this? If I use my current sand, live rock and water, there's no need for a "cycle" period, right?

    Tiny little "worms"?

Thanks. Kinda looks like a tube worm without a tube. Maybe vermetid snail. Not sure. I only see one spot that looks like it could be a single strand of "web". It's not letting me upload the picture.

    Tiny little "worms"?

Hang on. There's supposed to be a picture.

    Tiny little "worms"?

Just noticed these little things coming out of microscopic holes in my live rock. About 1cm long, appear translucent. Any ideas? 72g bow front FOWLR.

    BOBBIT worm !!

If you get all the peices out you should be fine. I think they mean that if you cut it in half and leave it, both halves with regrow into whole worms. I've actually done that experiment with flatworms. Sliced its head in half,... had 2 heads in a week.

    Mixing saltwater

I have a 72g bow front FOWLR and inverts. Have had it for a little over 4 years and up until now, have been buying saltwater premixed from my LFS. Lately I have been looking into buying a RO/DI system and mixing my own. I'm curios to see what salt mixes everyone prefers and why? Also, once you...

    Best lighting for FOWLR

Those of you with the orbit marine, how big is your tank? Do you need more than one light? I read some reviews indicating I would probably need more than one to get good coverage. I know the wattage doesn't really matter since I don't have corals but got the impression it may be a little on the...

    Best lighting for FOWLR

Now realize I shouldve probably posted this in the lighting forum. Don't know how to delete it.

    Best lighting for FOWLR

I have had a 72gal (48") bow front FOWLR for about 4 years. Have been using the same fluorescent light that came with it. I don't have any big plans to add corals but have been considering getting an LED light to reduce algae growth and also like the "moonlight" feature. I have been looking at...
