Totally Overwelmed By Coral Requirement Additives. Need Advice

The easiest thing to do is use a good quality reef salt mix. Something like Seachem ReefSalt or Instant Ocean Reef Crystals. Reef salt mixes have the additional trace elements needed to sustain most corals. Regular water changes will replenish the trace elements that are consumed by the corals...

    What to do about aiptasia?

I have also had success with Peppermint Shrimp getting rid of aiptasia. Unfortunately, one of my fish ate all my peppermints. I suspect my Orange Spotted Goby. He's the only one with a mouth big enough to eat them.

Day 19, API Test #9: Algae, Hermit Crab, and Astrea Snail Pictures

You have to manually clean the glass. You can get a Mag-Float for that. As for the heat, positioning a fan to blow across the top of the tank should help some. Maybe a small clip on fan that you can clip to the top of the tank.

Just some Questions about starting my 55 gal Reef tank!!!!

You want the overflow to have a little higher flow rate than the pump. That way your pump won't overflow the display tank. However, if you bought a 600 gph overflow and an 600 gph pump, you should be fine as the flow rate from the pump is diminished as it pushes water up to the tank.

Just some Questions about starting my 55 gal Reef tank!!!!

You need the HOB overflow box, a flex tube or PVC pipe to run from the overflow box to the sump, a return pump (I use a Mag-Drive 2), and tubing or pvc pipe for the return line. I use a flex tube for my overflow and 1/2" clear vinyl tubing with a U-shaped return spout that hangs on the back of...

    install a sump

To prevent a flood from a power loss you need to do two things. One is to have a siphon break on your return pipe. This is usually a small hole drilled into the return pipe just below the water line. The hole needs to be large enough to allow air in when the water level in the tank drops. The...

Just some Questions about starting my 55 gal Reef tank!!!!

Hey Scott, Sumps are easy to make. I am no plumber either and made one for my 55 gal reef tank. All you have to do is get a smaller tank than your display (something that will fit underneath easily) and get some pieces of glass cut to use as baffles. I bought a 20 gal long tank, measured the...
