You have the blenny before you have a tank set up? Please tell me you don't intend to cycle your new tank with the blenny...there are much better methods...a chunk of raw shrimp...or...ghost feed an invisible fish for a few weeks...or...use pure ammonia.
  • Hydrometer will do for now... but a refractometer will be of better use to you and more accurate...so plan an upgrade.
  • API test kits read nitrates 4Xs higher then what it really is. Keep that in mind when you do your tests.
  • I'm sorry to hear you purchased Coralife anything, that brand is nothing but bad news.
  • You will be wanting a real skimmer later on...Seaclone brand skimmer is like the bottom of the barrel scrapping by.
  • The best thermometer is the sticky type on the side of the glass, the little suction cup will only hold for a short time, it will become brittle and the whole thing just bob in the water.
  • How much live rock?

I agree w flower. Honestly you dont need the skimmer for a fowlr. The led lights tho are supp to be nice. Orbit makes good ones. I didnt see salt listed lol. My hydro meter read my tank at 1.022, my refractometer 1.030!!!!! Big diff lol

Hi,

50 pounds of rock would be more then enough....or... I use half live rock and half décor...IMO it looks nicer then a bunch of rock. The whole idea is to have enough surface area for the good bacteria to grow on. I also keep decorative macroalgae, which gives the tiny critters lots of places to hide from the fish, and it keeps the tank parameters near perfect.

I agree with dangerfish. Add the 22 lb of live rock, but add another 50 lb of nice looking dead rock at the beginning and after the cycle runs you will have 75 lb of nice live rock - enough to run any but the most overcrowded tanks.

To save a little bit of cash you can buy all dry rock and just buy one piece of live rock to seed it

Yes, but it will take a while for the dry rock to become live with critters living in it. You could also use all dry rock, then seed your tank with the tiny critters. Amphipods, copepods and tiny brittle stars can be purchased on-line. That way you can be sure to not have any bad hitchhikers.
