Just bought this light to replace my two T5 bulbs I had since my LFS was trying to get rid of it for a discounted price. So far I really like it except that I have to manual switch it for all blue lighting for night time. Was wondering if anyone else has used this light and if they had any success with corals under it, if so what type. Thank you in advance.

This light has been around for a while, so it doesn't represent "state-of-the-art" technology, but softies and lps should do fine towards the top of the water column, Deeper, not so much. It uses surface mounted emitters, so the dispersion of light is not very wide, so you may find that you need more than one unit to fully illuminate the tank, depending on what tank you have, and which light. All that said, this is a low priced light that will let you try some corals, and will give you a nice looking tank.

Thank you for your input, geridoc. I know it has been out for a while but it is ten times better looking then my T5 plus may help my ele. bill. I have it on a 55 DT and it definitely looks better and covers the whole tank. I have had my tank for about 2 years now only fish and been wanting to do some type of coral to continue further with this hobby. Would you suggest any other LED type lighting to support coral over the whole tank that our reasonably priced.

It depends on the type of coral you want to grow. Low light corals should work with the less expensive LEDs but if you want to have anemones or SPS corals the LEDS are pretty pricy.

Basically I am a newb to corals so I am going to start slow so I am going to start with some of the harder corals that will have a better chance for them to survive.

If you have the fluval sky 3000-25000k it is programmable. You can have any shade of blue or red or green or whatever color your going for. I have a soft coral at the bottom of a 27" tank and a anemone, both of which are fine with this light

It's a Fluval "Sea", which isn't programmable. It throws a narrow beam, and PAR isn't that great. Those SMD LED's don't have the intensity of a reflector type LED, as the light is scattered instead of focused. One advantage is that there should be excellent color blending. It may be okay for soft corals and some LPS (depending on depth), but that's about it. In my book, Fluval ranks right up there with Marineland... or should I say down there? In other words, I'm not a fan. If I had a fish-only tank and wanted to make their colors pop, I might be interested. I suppose it's still an upgrade, because you can't really do much with a 2-bulb T5 fixture. A 6-bulb like mine is a different story. You can change the color by swapping bulbs, and there's not much you can't grow... even Acropora. Just my 2c...
