my black fish are turning white

No, not the white glob, the whole fish used to be velvety black. they have two white spots. now the fish is grey and one of his spots looks translucent. What ever is happening to the fish looks like white spots, then they start loosing their color, then die. if I have ich I don't want to get my other fish sick

So my Damsel is doing the exact same thing. What was the issue. And how did you treat it

About 2 weeks and it just had some spots turn white. But then he was back to normal a few hours later. I think I just stressed him the night before because I added a few rocks and had my hand in the tank awhile

OK so the problem is back but I got a better picture this morning

Are those splotches eroding scales? You can get a better visual by using a magnifying glass to see if it is discoloration or actually erosion.

Notice any fish harassment? What are you water readings?

I have also recently been informed that he is more then likely being harassed. I have to get rid of him and my maroon clown. I have also learned to be cautious about listening to my local Fish store

There has been harassment. The scales are there and it only happens at night that he turns white. It also seems the are of white grows larger each time and seems to be worse each time but then it disappears through out the day. I'm so confused. But for sake of the fish I plan on taking him to the store tomorrow.

The growths sounds like lymphocystis. Which is consistent with being harassed. Take a look at this article and some pics of this condition.

I dont know Some parts look right but unfortunately he didn't make. But I did have a bit of a tank meltdown. I just had an anemone die which upset everything so a water change is in order today and an area of parameter checks and what not. I do appreciate all the help and will continue seeking advice and great conversations among these forums.

Do you have a reef tank then? Lighting to support the anemone?

Yes I am working on a reef tank. And I just learned I need a light upgrade but I also received the BTA and it was in bad shape from shipping. I have a current 29gal biocube and I plan on upgrading to a aqua illumination sol ether 26 or 52 depending on what fits. I also plan on a protein skimmer as well.
