I was wondering if anyone has had any luck keeping a emperor angel in a reef tank with coral, I have mixed feelings about this the guys at the aquarium shop said it is a 50/50 chance she will eat my coral? also what is the deffrance between cleaning a coral like getting alga off and hurting a coral I have a yellow tang that is picking at my brain coral but dont seem to hurt it, It does how ever put off a slime some times that looks like little spider webs

You don't clean the algae off the coral. It is best to. Fix the problem that is causing the algae, usually phosphates (phosphates will also prevent coralline). Even if your test says you have no phosphates the presence of algae says you do. They are just being used up by the algae. Phosphates get into the water when you use tap water for making salt water. Never use tap water it had tons of things in it that are bad for your fish.

In a really big tank with a well established coral population might be able to keep an emperor angle. They get to be well over a foot long so you really need at least a 220 gallon tank just to keep them in a fish only situation.

A juvenile emperor should be OK in a 75 gallon system if well fed, but there is a time limit on this, so be sure that you will be setting up the 200+ gallon system soon or you will have a real problem. Emperors are great fish, I had mine for almost 13 years before hurricane Sandy killed the tank. If not for the hurricane the fish would still be going strong.
