Purchased a Sick Clownfish??

background: so I recently started up my very first saltwater tank. It's a 60 gallon aquarium that I let run for about 2 months before I added some Chromis', 10 hermit crabs, and some snails. After seeing them successfully strive in my tank for about 3 weeks, I decided I wanted to go ahead and get a clown.

I went to a local aquatic shop and found the clown I wanted who was a baby black ocellaris. I noticed he had some white speckles on him but when I asked the owner of the aquatic shop about his health he insisted the fish was healthy. He prepared food for him and allowed me to watch him eat (which he happily did) to show his good health. He was a good swimmer, and ate fine. The owner of the store insisted he did not have ich.

i've only had to deal with ich once in my freshwater tank a long time ago, so i couldn't know for sure if this was what ich would look like on a clownfish so I went ahead and trusted the guy who had owned the aquatic shop for 16+ years, figuring he knew what he was talking about.

But the SECOND i got him home it just looked way too much like ich not to worry about it. He's been in my tank for three days now, and still has the white speckles all over him. The guy at the store told me he was just missing some scales due to some aggressive tank mates, but I do not believe that's what it is anymore.

Can you tell by this picture if this is Ich? and if it is, how should I go about treating it? I've never dealt with ich in a saltwater tank before, and since I have 2 other fish in there I don't want to harm them, but I don't think my hospital tank is not ready yet to add a fish into it. It's been cycling for about 3 weeks, but since there's never been a fish in there I don't know if it's safe to put him in there. Plus it's a very small tank (10 gallons) so I worry if I put him in there it'll only stress him out more. My other fish are fine, do not have ich. My clown is eating just fine from what I see and is very active. So anyways, please leave some tips! Is there anyway to treat him in the display tank? I know the pics aren't the best quality, it's hard to get a good shot on my phone of a clownfish who is

I cannot see your pics. But white speckles sound ich'ish.

You will learn not to trust the lfs. For most it's about the sale and not the actual live stock.

If you added a ich covered clown to your display tank, you've just introduced it to all of your other fish. And the only way to get it out is to take your fish out and place them in the hospital tank. Ich will die off in a fish-less tank in about 60 days.

You will also need to treat your fish in the qt tank. There are a couple of different ways to do this. You can use copper based medications, or use a method called hyposalinity. Hyposalinity will be easier on your fish.

Once you have treated your fish, and your display tank has been rid of the parasite, you want to make sure to put all new fish in your qt tank to make sure they aren't bringing anything in your tank you don't want.

You cannot treat them in your display tank. At the risk of killing all your inverts. And residual meds getting in your rock and sand.

Have fun! ; ) and good luck.

What do you have in your hospital tank? Without live rock and sand you shouldn't have a real cycle like your display tank had. A sponge filter, heater and a power head should be all you need. A few chromies and a small clown will be ok in a 10 gal for qt period.

The pics you posted aren't working correctly.

What kind of tank do you have? Fish-only, or do you have live rock, any corals?

Fish only with live rock! Since I've made this post, my clown has lost all symptoms of ich. I'm sure it's still in my tank though, but he is acting perfectly fine, has no white speckles on him, and my chromis are fine as well. I'm sure i should still treat it though, don't know the best method
