I have a similar issue. The water is odorless coming out of the filter, but if it sits in the rubbermaid container in my very hot garage for a few days, I notice a smell. Not horrible, but noticeable if I hold it next to my nose. It doesn't happen in the winter.

I am not an expert, but I think that's too many fish for a 29. A couple of those damsels get pretty large. The Jewel and Domino get about 5 inches or better. Also, an adult Domino is pretty drab looking. A mandarin may be difficult to keep even if the tank is mature, due to it's small size...
