    CYNO in FUG.???????

this is good!! The cyano will use up nutrients in your water, and prevent it from growing in your display. It should not migrate, you might want to look into your feeding though, sounds like you're overfeeding. No refuge can scrub out the excess waste from overfeeding (except the ocean). I...

    Increasing RO/DI efficiency!!!

Alright, I am a student so I don't want to pay out the @$$ for filters (especially DI) all the time. So I have spent the last months tweaking my RO/DI unit. My house TDS is 100-125 ppm. When I started tweaking, post RO water was 5-6 ppm. I decided I needed to get this down, b/c the lower the...

    Is coraline algae enough?

are you running a DSB? this will greatly help in denitrification, corraline will not. A refuge would help too. Feeding: if you have an outbreak of algae, you should cut down your feeding to 1-2x a week. Fish can go a long time without food. HTH

    Who uses a glass top?

I used one for a while:kept in too much heat Blocked too much light + It did reduce evap - this caused temp to rise + Kept my halides cleaner So yeah, I took off the top, heat is a big issue when you have 1000watts over a 55 gallon tank. HTH Bob

How do you adjust a protein skimmer?

that looks like an airstone driven design. You should replace them ~every month. You want as much air as possible, and water flow should be ~500 gph, depending on your tank, and how big you made this skimmer. Bob

How do you adjust a protein skimmer?

Thats a broken link. But- Without looking at what you made, to adjust the air, you want to use an air valve. To adjust the water you should use a ball valve. Thats about all I can tell you w/o knowing what type of skimmer it is. Bob

    Eductors

First off -- eductors should work, I was thinking about using one in my tank (55) this morning. I run a mag 24. Second-No refuge and no DSB?!?!? I strongly advise against this method of filtration You need nutrient export. A DSB is a great addition to a sump. I have my sump setup as a...

    MH Flickering?

If you have an electronic ballast, the bulb will flicker during the burn in of the bulb. If you have a magnetic ballast, then it may be the wrong bulb/ballast matchup. Give the bulb ~150 hours, and then see if its still acting up. If so, come back. HTH Bob
