Parting with an Old Friend, 100G Tall Complete

Well, I've gotta move, and gotta sell. I hope there is someone out there nearby that is interested. Here's a pic, and I will describe the system, as it is very simple, but very successful. And before you ask, most of the corals have already been sold, all that's left are a couple pieces of star...

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

just so you all dont think I'm running a 29 gal. fish only tank :) LOL This is a 1 year old tank, started out with all frags except the open brain. The green BTA has split 3 times since this pic 12/06. I've also sold about 150 frags out of this tank since then. Unfortunately, I am moving this...

Mega-Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover Replaces Skimmer, Refugium, Everything

Wow, I've been missing out on a lot for the past year. This is a great thread, lots to agree with and disagree with. After 20 years in this hobby I think I've seen it all! LOL. We were doing ATS in the mid 80's when I got started, and the refugiums and sand beds, all of it. To keep down the...

Rynka, you should post this to everyone who has asked about starting a new seahorse tank.

wanting to start a seahorse tank.

PonieGirl is right on the button on these species. They are the easiest to raise and maintain, and are, in fact, very hardy, compared to many of the dwarf and rarer species. Hopefully you have a good local dealer to obtain livestock from. Another great seahorse resource is Seahorse.org. They...

    What the Heck!?!?!?!

Congrats on the babies & best of luck. I've been raising ponies for the past year. Baby brine is the best way to go for small, easily caught food. And the pod population will help a great deal. As they grow, they will need rotifers as the next "step up". Be very careful of the water quality, as...

    Brown Algae

I agree. chemi-clean is great stuff. Works awesome on Cyanobacteria (slime, or red algae) I dont know how it will work on "brown algae", which is probably diatoms, not algae. I dont know what you have for a "clean up crew", but a good broad selection of hermits, snails, small stars, clams, etc...

    Reducing my nitrates and nitrites?

how long have you had this tank setup? nitrites are a bit high, should be zero, but not surprising for the fish load in a 40G. Everything else is well within norms. You should probably not have the two tangs in a tank that small, but other than that I dont see a problem. Your nitrates are going...

6 tangs in my 29 gallon

for starters, you can get a much larger tank, and find a different LFS if they knowingly let you put that many agressive fish in that size tank. You can use the 29 for a quarantine tank, refugium, or sump for your larger tank. And at this point you'll probably need a broad spectrum parasite...
