    what can('t) a 4 inch lion eat

Of the common dwarf lions (Dendrochirus) (zebra, brachypterus, biocellatus) the smallest is the fu manchu (biocellatus) which commonly grows up to 4 inches (the others often grow to 7). So the blackfoot lion is on par size wise with the smallest of the dwarf lions.

    what can('t) a 4 inch lion eat

First, thanks for the quick replies to both of you. The species is Parapterois heterura (blackfoot lionfish), which has been recorded as large as 9 inches (record) but is rarely observed to be greater than 4 inches in adult length (Morphological Comparison of a Poorly Known Scorpionfish...

    what can('t) a 4 inch lion eat

I was planning on a community aquarium, however I have recently become fascinated with lionfish. I am debating having a lionfish, I was planning on a clown, a sixline, a small goby, and a Grammatidae. It strikes me that any of these would become fish food to a 4 inch lion. Is this correct...

    Can my QT support this?

I'm new at this, so take any of my ideas with a grain of salt. If I understand you correctly you are worried about the ability of the bacteria in the QT to process the nitrogenous wastes of the chromis. You could move fish from the display back to the QT, immediately the 3" fish + maybe...

    Possible 29g Stocklist

I've been debating my stocklist for a similarly sized tank for months now. I think I would like 1) clown (ocellaris or percula) 2) royal gramma 3) sixline wrasse 4) greenbanded goby (not popular for some reason unknown to me) They're just what I'm thinking about. As far as inverts I would also...

    Minimum Impact Tank

Has anyone made a minimal impact tank? I'm wondering how limiting it would be. Anyways if you've done it I'd love to hear about how it went for you, and everybody loves pictures. This is spawned from seeing this article. I'm thinking one could use artificial rocks or just dry rock. There...

hermit crab not happy? large hermits?

Sorry to bring back a sitting thread, but I must have missed the last two replies. Does this zebra refer to the hawaiian zebra, Calcinus laevimanus? I can't even make a reasonable guess which hermit the red leg is. Perhaps I should just go to the lfs and ask if they have any large reef safe...

    2 angels

Wow, Pontius, I was just asking out of curiosity, but that was incredibly enlightening. For my dream tank (which will never happen) I think I'll have a flame angel and a potter's angel (both centrygope, but hopefully enough space) in a 180.

    Effective tank size

You think the 90 degree bend is too much and they would not be ok with swimming in a "circle" about the perimeter?

    Effective tank size

So just looking at various tanks I have started to wonder about how much space various fish need. For example commonly cited on this board is tangs need 6 feet of length to be happy and healthy. How would a tang do in a tank that was 5 foot by 5 foot? Or 4' x 4'? 4' x 4' x 25" is 240...

    2 angels

Going along with this at what size would it be ok to keep two dwarf angels? I assume in a 8 foot long tank they might not interact with each other enough to get beat up, or if they didn't get along, at least they have room to get away from each other. Is there some sort of rule for species...

snails i ordered are not moving.

I just got a batch of 10 snails from the lfs. After two days there were 2 that had not moved. After a third day one of these still had not moved. They all made it though and now are going about their busy way. So sometimes they just take a long time to get going.

    Closed loop or no?

I'm still a beginner as well, however I can offer you what I know (which may in fact be in error, but I feel pretty good on this). A closed loop, a sump and a refugium are solutions to three different problems. A closed loop is a method of increasing flow and does little else. A sump adds...

the non scientificness of cycling a tank

Lights are 192 w power compact actinics, 250 w daylight hqi. Right now only running the pc's, though I end up turning on the white light to look at it, looks so much better under that color lighting.
