I guess I'm pretty lucky! A friend was trying to get rid of her tank, and wanted it to go to a good home, so she gave me the entire set-up (55 gal tank, stand, filter, protein skimmer, heaters, live rock, fish and inverts for $350.

I could see banning tanks with TURTLES in them- they have been shown to carry salmonella. But I have 4 turtles and use common sense- wash with soap & water after touching them- especially my kids. I've never had a problem. Anyway, good luck to you!

I have read this forum for about 3 months. I know a lot of people prefer deep sand beds. we have a local store here that only has saltwater tanks, and they don't prefer DSB's. I'd really like to know what you all think. Thanks!

I asked the same question a few weeks ago, and was recommended the Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner. I have enjoyed the book very much, and would recommend it!

I was recommended (from this forum) a good book called The Conscientious Marine Aquarist. The book recommends replacing your bulbs every 9-12 months, but do NOT replace them all at once(it may shock your inhabitants). Hope this helps!

I purchased a tank from a friend. She said it was a 75 gallon tank. I bought a book, and in it they give the dimensions of a 55 gallon tank, which match my tank's dimensions: 48" X 12" X 21". Do I have a 55 gallon? I'd just like to know. Thanks!
