Getting Rid of Tank in Central NJ

Hey folks, please let me know if anyone is interested, after much debate I have decided to get rid of the tank and I am looking for a new owner. Ideally someone to take the whole thing would be great, but might consider a break up if its not possible. Anyhow, main tank is a 55 All Glass with an...

North Jersey, moving and selling 29 Gallon Complete +

Jugger, I would rather not break it up, so if someone is interested in the whole thing I would rather go that way. But if I don't get any interest in the whole thing, I will let you know. -Scott

Has this ever happened to you?

Put a starfish in my tank a month or so ago. Next day it was missing an arm, so I decided to move it to my sumpugium. A week or so later I went looking for him to see if he recovered, nothing, nada, no where to be found. The only thing I can think of is he died and the eco-system did away...

    Can I pull this off?

Pyro, A few ideas. If your going to put the return pump in the sump, I have seen a lot of folks make a small section in their sump which holds say 2 gallons in normal operation for which the return pump lives. Basically you have your return line from the tank come into the larger section, and...

What lights should I buy for my reef?

Rye, Just cuious, you said you were building your own canapy, how high off the water the lights going to be? I also have a 29, but with a store bought wooden canopy the lights are only 4 or so inches off the water. I am running 2 55 Watt smart lights in mine and a 50/50 flourescent tube, with...

Nitrates remain elevated, can you help ?

I set-up a sumpugium on my tank about 2 months ago, with some grape culerpa in there and have been VERY pleased with the nitrate levels. Really seems like a nice easy way to go. Its also fun to look into that sump tank now and see all sorts of little bugs and critters running around. Anyhow...

    getting VERY DISCOURAGED SW

Yes, use dead shrimp from the food store for your cycle. The ammonia levels during the spike of a cycle are deadly. Using live fish for the cycle is sort of an old thing, I think most people go with a dead source now, works better and its much friendlier to the fish. ;-) _Scott

    ScooterBlenny and Pods

Bought a scooter (dragonette actually) blenny, not realizing that they are major pod eaters. As mentioned you can get a kit from IPSF, they also sell a pod kit which you could set up in say a 10 gallon tank and put some live rock in the 10 gallon and transfer some of the live rock to and from...

    nitrites are high

Coors, as the others posted, there are two options. Do a partial water change which will make the conditions less deadly for your inverts, but SLOW down your cycle. OR don't do a water change and keep the cycle progressing as it is. BUT those conditions are not good for the inverts. So if...

    brown algae growing all over

Another source, check your super market bottled water. I have been using one by Great Bear (I THINK) thats a green bottle and its the "Purified Water" If you look closer at the label its RO/DI. (Comes in the 2 1/2 gal sizes which is pretty easy to work with) -Scott

    Bristol Worms?Help!

You can get a trap for them I think. And send them to me, I am always looking for bugs and worms for the tank. As far as touching them, yea I wouldn't do that. ;-) Though I try not to touch anything in my tank, esp with bare hands. -Scott
