Is my new Colt Coral dying?

It is now two months later and I have news to report: The Colt Coral is doing well and has grown back to its original size. What did I do? 1) Added a powerhead to increase flow around the Colt. 2) Spot feed microvert and zooplex on occasion. 3) Did NOT change lights. Still using a standard...

Is my new Colt Coral dying?

That's a good question. I specifically selected the Colt because on SWF's site it is the only coral (other than mushrooms, zoos and leather toadstool) that says it needs only "Medium Light, Medium Flow." Everything else needs bright light for the zooxanthellae algaes. Something about the...

Is my new Colt Coral dying?

I just bought a Colt coral from SWF eight days ago. When it arrived it was very healthy looking and was 6-8" tall with full stalks. Over the past few days it has shrunk down to 3-4" with smaller stalks. My water specs are Ammonia 0, Nitrate 0, Nitrite 0 Possibly helpful facts:Everything else...

A weighty subject -- ok to use lead?

Back in the 70's I had freshwater tanks and the fish stores wrapped lead around the bottom of the plants to help them stay in the gravel. Now I'm wondering if I can use lead in a marine tank to help hold down a duster cluster that won't stay put on my rocks. I don't want to risk all my fish and...

    Ammonia in the mixing bucket!

I had the same problem. It wasn't until I tested "new" water and it had .20 ppm that I knew the kit was not calibrated properly. I got a new test kit and my ammonia magically went away!:jumping:

    SWF.com's LR, cured?

Actually, my Ammonia didn't go up at all, it was the Nitrates that were off the chart.

    SWF.com's LR, cured?

When I got mine it was quite fresh but I put it in my Quarantine tank anyway. It was a good thing I did since my chemistry in QT got all out of whack. A week later I put it in my display tank and everything was fine.

    Help with new coral

I "placed" mine on a shelf on my LR and within a day or two it attached a "foot" and has been stationary since. No need to glue or anything.

    ordering fish and inverts

Usually they ship the day after you order, but not always. Shipping is always overnight priority, so the day after they ship, you will receive your order. If you need a specific delivery day, they will accomodate your request, but you need to give two or three days notice. i.e. if you want...

    Seaclone 100

I can't explain why, but my Seaclone did the same thing for the first few days. It spilled tons of bubbles into my tank and nothing into the collection cup. After doing absolutely nothing, it stopped spilling into the tank and started collecting sludge. I get maybe 1 cm of that great...

    Quarantine new hermits, mushrooms, etc?

That makes sense. Does everybody agree with that?

    lr question

I don't think life is guaranteed on "live" rock. The Fiji rock I got from SWF has great coraline on it and nice shapes, but there weren't any critters on it. The rock I received was very clean and had been well cured. At this point you may need to buy whatever you were hoping would be...

    Quarantine new hermits, mushrooms, etc?

I know that I should be putting my new fish into a QT for a few weeks. What about other items like hermit crabs, nudibranch, mushrooms, polyps, feather dusters, snails, etc? Should they all go into quarantine too? Maybe just some of those? Which? Thanks !!!
