    Ammonia Problem

The new rock was cured. It was out of water for no more than 1 hour in transport from lfs to tank. I use RO water. A whirlpool system purchased from Lowe's and installed at home. I have not cleaned the filter. My understanding is that cleaning it removes the "good" bacteria and you should...

    Ammonia Problem

Nitrates are 0 I feed once a day - a small amount of flake/pellet (rotate this) and ~1/4 cube of frozen brine shrimp. I basically stop when the 3 fish quit eating. Filter is a ehiem Protien skimmer is remora pro 110lbs of live rock (40lbs of that was added at the end of May) I thought about the...

    Fish Dead (Again!)

Start from scratch - yuck! But if I have to, I have to. Current tank contents (75gal tank): 1 lawnmower blenny numerous snails and crabs 1 cleaner shrimp 5 peppermint shrimp 70lbs live rock live sand Do I need to completely empty the tank and literally start over? The money on the rock and...

    Fish Dead (Again!)

I believe that my tank never cycled since set-up. The only ammonia spikes I've ever had were after a fish had sat in the tank dead for several hours. I've never had the usual ammonia goes up, then nitrite, then nitrate. Tonight the ammonia reading was back to 0. Nitrate and nitrite are also...

    Fish Dead (Again!)

Thanks for all the help! I lost the other clown last night. I still have 1 blenny and lots of inverts. I am certainly guilty of a lack of patience on adding fish. They're so little it's hard to believe they make such a difference in the water quality. I'm a believer now! Water changes will...

    Fish Dead (Again!)

What's considered a "new tank"? When can I keep the lights on longer? The first time around 2 clowns were added with inverts. Fast forward a few months to this week. The 2 clowns, 1 blenny, 1 tang, and lots of inverts were all added in less than 1 week.

    Fish Dead (Again!)

My mix does sit for 24hrs before use, but I don't have a heater with it. I keep 3-4gal. buckets for my water changes. What temp do you recommend for the water? My tank is at 76 with 1 heater. Keep the comments coming! This is great help!

    Fish Dead (Again!)

I do not have a quarintine tank. Does it make that big a difference? I started with tap water (HUGE MISTAKE). I have done weekly 20% water changes with RO water for about 2mths to correct that problem. I know that was the reason for the algae problems.

    Fish Dead (Again!)

Thanks for the reply! I checked all the parameters yesterday afternoon when the clown died. The ammonia was 0 then. The tang died during the night so it was in the water dead for several hours. Wouldn't that cause the ammmonia spike? There are no dead fish in the tank now but possibly some...

    Fish Dead (Again!)

I started my 75 gal. tank 4mths ago. Here's what died about 2 mths ago - 2 clownfish, 1 yellow tang, and all my inverts. I have also battled (and defeated) brown algae and red slime. After clearing the algae problems, I added 2 damsels. Everything had gone well for several weeks, so I thought...
