I would be sure to set it up in such a way that the floor joists will be perpendicular to the tank. My tank is in a 100yr old house with floor sag, and it's doing just fine.

Just because something is "reef safe" doesn't mean no specimens will eat your fish. Of what you have in your tank, I have heard of Coral Banded, Green coral crabs, and hermits eating fish. You'd have to witness the act to know which one it is, and it's probably happening at night.

I'm currently using Oceanic, and haven't yet noticed any issues. I am only using it because it's the brand my LFS sells.

The arc tube of a metal halide lamp operates at 2,000F, I'd recommend getting that a lot further than 3" above your tank. Maybe 12", but I've seen them mounted as far as 3' over tanks.

I work with Plusrite bulbs all the time. They are cheap for a reason, they have the highest failure rate of any bulb I've ever used. Fair warning
