    Flame and Emperor Angels?

We are looking at Christmas 2004 for a larger tank. We have found the perfect spot for a nice 180-220 gallon tank that we have been wanting for several years now.

    Flame and Emperor Angels?

I know the "rule" about similar fish don't get along. Would a flame angel and juv. emperor angel "get along" in a 75 gallon, well established tank with 3 perc. clowns, 3 green chromis, other misc snails and shrimp? 75 gallon, about 90lb live rock, 4-5in. deep sand bed. Only corals are button...

    Clownfish numbers

I read somewhere that clownfish can live in small "schools" (not the right term, but small group) and that the largest will be the female. If she dies, one of the others will become the larger female, etc.

    Clownfish numbers

We recently purchased 3 percula clowns for our 75 gallon. These are the only clownfish in the (very, very lightly stocked) tank. When they were first put in the tank, they all swam together around the tank. Now, 3 days later, it seems that one of them is swimming by himself, and doesn't hang...

    Need help to raise lighting?

OK. Now after 1 full day with the fans running, the temp is a constant 74 degrees, and I put a heater in the tank for the first time to make sure that it didn't go lower! This is a 10 degree drop from the almost constant daytime 84 degrees. Since this will be a seahorse tank, and they...

    Need help to raise lighting?

OK. I went to Rip-Off Shack and picked up two 3" fans, hooked them up under the hood, and wired them up. They blow slightly downward towards the water, and sem to push a good amount of air. I will see what happens over the next few days and let everyone know.

    Need help to raise lighting?

I've thought about re-making the canopy, however, I don't have the stain anymore that I used for the canopy and the stand. I don't remember what color or anything I used, so it would be difficult to match. I wonder if I could just cut out a square "hole" on each side and attach 2 fans, one...

    Need help to raise lighting?

Haven't been around these boards for a while, but I knew that I would get some great help and ideas for all of you. Here's the situation. I have a 30 gallon XTall tank (species tank for seahorses) that I've been "test driving" for a while. (I like to set it all up with lights, water, etc...

    Converting to DSB questions

I went through this switch in my 75 gallon about 9 months ago. What a messy project. Ended up with an ammonia spike for about 10 days. I did the stocking filled with the CC from before the switch, I also used about three 40 pound bags of AragAlive live sand, and still had the spike. After the...

    Sea horses

I agree with Carrie. Go to seahorse.org! Awesome site. Be sure to get only captive bred horses, as they are much healthier, live longer, and are trained to eat frozen mysis shrimp, not just live foods. That site also has a library with stocking information etc....

    Fish for 220 Gal FOWLR

It is great seeing all of these ideas. We too like tangs. Before our tank got "cooked" we had a nice purple tang, yellow tang, and Pacific Blue tang (They actually got along just fine in the 75 gallon, but we knew that it was short term and once they got bigger we would have to move them into...

    Fish for 220 Gal FOWLR

OK. We are getting ready to take the plunge. We have been keeping our 75 gallon reef running very well for about 18 months now, and then it happened. We were gone for 2 days (left Saturday AM returned Sunday late PM) to find that our nice programmable thermistat went on the fritz, and...

    UV Sterilizer

I just put a "double-helix" 9 watt on my 75 gallon. It is hooked up to a 200GPH pump, and it has helped to almost completely clear up an algae problem in less than 1 week. It wasn't the sole fix, but it did help to kill off free-floating algae spores, etc. My corals were being overtaken, and...

    Need help with pH problem!

The water was fresh R/O for 50%, made right then, and salt mized right then. 25% was a salt wix from the 9th of January sitting in an air tight container, so pretty much "fresh", and the last 25% was from the reef tank. The temp is now 76F, and I keep the reef around 80F during the day (thanks...

    Need help with pH problem!

I finally got the stand built for my wife's new 30 gallon tall tank, put some new argonite in the bottom (after rinsing it of course) put in about 75% freshly made R/O water and salt mix (mixed it before putting into the tank), and 25% of water from the main tank. I have the heater and...

    Changing cc to l/s in 125 g

I did the same thing a few months back in our 75 gallon... People told me it would be a piece of cake, and since I was using "preseeded" southdown, and some Arag-Alive, and some "sludge" from my LFS's curing tank, I would be fine. Well, I took everything out and put them in the large tubs...

Need help with wood choices for stand...

I am going to build a stand and canopy for a new 30 gallon tank for my wife for Christmas, but I was wondering about wood choices. I have 4 choices, these are all solid wood, no plywood or particle board... Which will work, etc... Oak - $97.50 Poplar - $72.50 Pine - $58.00 Douglar Fir -...

    HELP! Ammonia in tap water!!!!!

OK. Check out this test. I tested the water from the tap again, this time no salt, just tap water. Ammonia was about 1.0 - 1.5 I then added AmQuel to a sample of the tap water, still no salt, and I got a reading very close to, if not, zero on the ammonia. I was using stress coat before to...

    HELP! Ammonia in tap water!!!!!

OK. I did a little searching and someone else had posted that some salt mixes have ammonia in them. Is that true? Also, my nice purple coraline algae is turning white.
