Moving a 120 gallong tank, opinions?

Thanks for the step by step advice. A few questions though. You put the fish directly into buckets of water, not in individual fish bags? You recommend removing the substrate from the tank as well? Would it be ok to leave the substrate with a little water in the tank? I guess it would be lighter...

Moving a 120 gallong tank, opinions?

Will the tank really cycle if I keep 3/4 of the water. It will be like a big water change. The tank does have some coraline growth that we plan on removing before transporting so it won't die off and contaminate the tank.

Oh, I miss spoke, I meant I would be interested in more details on Tat2d's tank in Eugene. That would be a much shorter move and I could stop by any time. I work in Eugene.

Thanks for the posts since I last checked. I have been to Salem and back. The tank was beautiful, lots and lots of corals and green algae. Lots of coraline growth as well. It was blazing hot in the house and the digital thermometer read 84 degrees. The man said the thermometer didn't work that...

    Clown jumped!

I had a clown jump also. I did not leave my lid open, but there were small openings at the back of the tank for equipment and he got out one of those. Sorry for your loss!

    Clownfish Died!!

I have had challenges with clown fish lately myself. My LFS finally admitted to me after the thrid one I bought bit the dust after two days (all other fish fine) that they are getting poor quality ones from thier supplier. They said since the popularity of Finding Nemo that clown fish are in...

Thank you for the reminder. I did talk to the current owner about the move. He was sharing how he had moved it when he moved last year. I do have a vehicle large enough to move the tank, stand and many accessories (buckets, etc.) Or we could take two vehicles. How long do you anticipate that I...

I imagine the shipping would kill you all the way from Oregon. I will check on the wattage when I see the tank tomorrow. I am planning on taking the cash with me, so if it is in good condition I can pay him on the spot. If there really isn't anything wrong with it, it won't last long. Thanks for...

I have never priced MH lights before. I only have compacts on my current 37 gal. Wow, they are spendy. It looks like the bulbs are really spendy to replace as well. How often do they burn out? Is there a big range in quality of MH units and what would you recommend for a 120 gal reef?

Thanks for your reply. I am purchasing used, so I don't have much say on the dimensions. I would prefer not to have to tall of a tank, I think it would be a hassle.

    Cheap?

Such a personal question, lol! I am 5'9" so a few inches shy of 6'. A previous post asked about how many corals. I am not positive as I haven't seen it yet, but I the gentleman implied that he had 6-10 corals, several anemones a nudibranch, a few fish.... Thanks for your opinions!
