    Updates on new SW tank

Obviously, I've lost all ability to spell. That was supposed to be "un-initiated" in the last post! :D

    Updates on new SW tank

Wow, Mike, it sounds like your tank is really coming along! Mine is still cycling -- nitrates down to 10, so I hope to get started on adding a cleanup crew soon. My husband keeps kidding me about my new hobby of "watching rocks," and I guess it does sound weird to the unitiated. It's amazing how...

I'm a volunteer diver at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, CA, and we feed our vegetarians pieces of nori (the same seaweed sheets used in sushi), as well as romaine and even occasional broccoli!

    Updates on new SW tank

Wow, everyone is making such GREAT progress! Sorry, Woody -- I'm too much of a newbie to be any help on the blenny thing. I think my polyp is a brown button polyp. Dunno if I want it or not, but it's there... All levels are where they should be except for those stubborn nitrates, which keep...

Other than that, everyone seems...

Also just discovered this thread on the glass. It's greenish and looks like it may be flora rather than fauna.

Those pix are very cool, Woody! Thanks especially for letting us see the famous mushrooms. It looks like that second one opened up just fine. I found a feather duster (#1 on the picture below near my still-unidentified polyp (#2). The white fuzzies on the back of the rock don't appear or behave...

    Updates on new SW tank

My pH has been pretty much constant at 8.2 also Gone -- perhaps because I started with water from my lfs. Of course, the tank is only a week old, so who knows what may happen. Meanwhile the brown algae or diatoms or whatever are running AMOK! Originally posted by woodymdt We're about two weeks...

And does anyone know what this critter might be? I just noticed both it and the white fluffy thing tonight for the first time. :notsure:

Two unidentified critters. Is this one, perhaps, a juvenile aiptasia?

    Updates on new SW tank

As promised, here's the update. Today marks the end of Week One, and things are moving along, apparently as they should. Here's a picture of the overall look of the tank. I'll follow up with two more pix of unidentified critters.

    Updates on new SW tank

Thanks, Woody. I moved the PH as high as it would go (which was only about a half inch from where I had it) and removed the outlet adapter. That improved the surface movement a bit. I'll watch to see if that works better over the long haul. The little arthropods (or whatever they are) are having...

    Updates on new SW tank

Quick update on my four-day-old set-up: So far, no significant changes in pH, NO2, NO3, Ammonia or salinity. I'm adding fresh water every day to compensate for evaporation. Question #1: Is any reverse-osmosis or distilled water OK? The stuff I bought indicates it's purified by RO and/or...
