Moving long distance: what to do?

We're going to be moving long distance (about 900 miles) and I need suggestions on how/if to move my established 46g tank. It currently has two damsels and a bunch of inverts (shrimp, crabs). I can't imaging trekking that distance with water sloshing in a tank. Does anyone have any clever...

    fish keep dying

Curious if you have a lot of fast growing algae in your tank? I noticed that my die-offs always occur after the first algae bloom. I recently read that algae can deplete the water of O2 and in some cases, algae has been known to release toxins and kill fish in coastal regions, but I don't know...

    fish keep dying

Welcome to the club! I have the EXACT same problem with my 46g right now. And... it has happened twice. The first time it happened, once all the fish died, I sterilized the tank and started over. For me, I cycled with damsels and the damsels did perfectly fine *while* the tank was cycling...

Bangaii Cardinal: only fish that survives!

Never mind. Woke up this morning and the BC was dead. Now I'm down to no fish in the tank again. I guess I'll leave the tank fishless for a month or so and then maybe try one fish. I get the feeling there is some fish disease lurking in the tank because I've never lost an invert. Are...

Bangaii Cardinal: only fish that survives!

After pulling my hair out and being just about ready to give up due to losing so many fish in my tank, I have found that the Bangaii Cardinal is the only fish that can survive in my tank, along with the inverts. I've had at least a dozen fish die including oscellaras, marine betta, and damsels...

    72 volts in my tank!!!

Very interesting, and believable. I know a little about electricity but next to nothing about how it affects fish. For now, I've done the best thing I can do. There's a titanium grounding rod in there and the voltage reads near zero. I've already tried eliminating all the machinery one by...

    72 volts in my tank!!!

Electromagnetism does just travel through the air and can induce a current in something that it is not touching. That's how inductive pickups work on timing lights, that's how some AC power detectors work, and that's how you can get noise/hum from running some cables too close (and parallel) to...

    72 volts in my tank!!!

I have titanium in there now. I had a titanium exhaust flange clamp. It worked perfectly. I put both nuts on one side of the clamp to clamp down the copper wire to the clamp and then just hung the other side over into the tank. Works perfectly and cost me nothing. Another oddity has turned...

    72 volts in my tank!!!

OK, just measured the amperage with the grounding rod out: 3 microamps. That's 3 ten millionths of an amp. Not sure that's significant enough to affect anything. I'm not even sure how the meter is able to read voltage with that little amperage. Mike
