What's your dream Eel Tank - If Size didn't matter

Hey man I am glad somebody is going to give it a try. You know my vote would be a tessy which is why I decided just to wait because I can't put one in my current tank. I think it would be awesome though! Definitely on my list just not on the top unfortunately.

    Can this work?

The smallest I have seen is a 22". However I have been slightly rethinking things. I am planning on upgrading to a large tank here in the next couple of years and so I will be holding off on several fish I really like but do not want to force in a 150 (ie angels, maybe an eel, etc). Here is...

    Can this work?

Okay here is another threesome I could be interested in. Lunar wrasse Purple tang Queen angel Dme or brazilian dragon. If I can't find the fish as large adults and get them as juvis should I wait until they are a certain size and then add the eel? Thanks

    Can this work?

That sounds really interesting. So maybe a couple triggers (picasso, niger, or maybe a small clown) and something like a dogface? Would the dogface be too slow to be with an eel? Are DME's and BDM's about the same temperament? I think something like that with the damsels would look pretty sweet.

    Can this work?

Alright if the sohal is not a good fit, what would be a good suggestion? As far as the large angels the ones I like (emp, queen to name a couple)I think get too large for my tank. I think those will have to wait until I get my big tank. Thanks

    Can this work?

Okay it looks like I will not be putting a tessy in my 150 so I wanted to throw something else out there. What do you think about this: Clown Trig Sohal Tang DME Then maybe some small damsels to add some color. Thanks in advance.

    Eel in 150

One more question for informational purposes. I have seen and read about people keeping eels that grow 3-4 feet in a 75 (which I believe is 4 feet long). What is the difference in keeping a 5-6 foot long eel in a 6 ft tank? I am not trying to force an issue or anything I just want to...

Hey thanks prime. Do you know how I could get in touch with him? Does he check the thread a lot or could I send him a pm or something? Thanks

    Eel in 150

That was an interesting article I appreciate the post. It definitely makes you think and I agree I would not want to move a 5' eel either. Though if I did go the tessy route I would move him in a couple of years so I wouldn't imagine he would be that big at that point. So as far as the smaller...

    Eel in 150

Hey man don't get me wrong I have not even bought this eel nor do I plan on keeping it in a situation that would not be a good fit for it. I am merely trying to gather as much information as I can from as many different sources as I can. If I do get the tess I would not have a problem upgrading...

    Eel in 150

Look all I said is that I have read conflicting information. For example I just read about someone who got a tess at around 16in and had it for almost 8 years in a 150 before it got too big and bought a bigger tank. I was asking if there was any one on this board who has actually kept them or...

    Eel in 150

Okay I am a little confused. I have read conflicting reports on the size of the tank for a tessalata. Earlier today I was reading on WWM and I found where it said a 6ft tank would be big enough. Has anyone seen a full grown tessalata in a home aquarium environment? I know I have seen many...

    Eel in 150

All I have in it now is some sand, liverock, dogface puffer and a handful of damsels. It has been running for a few months now I was going to stock it with fish but have been holding off thinking about an eel. I am taking the dogface back to the lfs and then will rearrange my liverock and add...

    Eel in 150

Thanks for the info. Now I thought I had read somewhere that once they reach around 30" they dramatically slow in growth. Is that not true? I don't have a problem upgrading in a couple years I just thought it would last a little longer in a 150 because it is only 8-9 inches long right now. Also...

    Eel in 150

Alright so if I keep just the tess and various small fish would I be able to keep the tess for its lifetime?

    Eel in 150

Yeah I was not thinking of doing the lion and the trigger together, I know that would not work. I am thinking of doing one of the following with the tess I am just trying to get a consensus of which is the most compatible. A-lion B-clown trigger C-several damsels or other small fish D-maybe...

    Eel in 150

Hey all I am new to world of eel keeping and I had a question. I have a 150 that I am thinking about putting a tesselata eel in from my lfs. Right now it is around 8-9 inches or so. My questions are: 1. I know these eels get to be a max of around 5'10". Would this tank be alright for life...
