Need advice Tank water evaporates safe to make my own water?! plz help!

I am probably too careful with matching my temp of water change to my tank but thats because I have a basement tank and my RO station is in the basement. So the difference in temp is significant. Also because I have had a problem in the past where I stressed my fish and caused a problem (which...

Need advice Tank water evaporates safe to make my own water?! plz help!

No easy answers but here are some things to help keep you safe. (First, I assume you are not able to invest in an RO filter.. Thats your best bet.. If not, and you want to use chemicals you must match the water to your tank to ensure your safe. Some fish are really flexible to poor water...

Trigger suddenly hiding and not eating.

I learned something in a previous post. If you increased your water changes (always a good thing right???) make sure the temp and salinity of the water you add is the same as what you replace. This is a big deal and can stress a fish which leads to illness. I know first hand as I lost a fish...

Trigger suddenly hiding and not eating.

Good luck. I wasn't making fun about the cuddling. I loved the story. I hope he pulls through for you. I had a big Hawaiian Trigger and he was aggressively mean. I wore gloves. My Picasso never bit. Triggers are beautiful even if messy eaters and a little psychotic.

Trigger suddenly hiding and not eating.

Thats interesting Trev, I have had triggers for years and have never had this problem. I once had the tank contract Marine Velvet (or something) and we had to set up a hospital tank and I lost fish then. The thing with Picasso triggers is they dont show the symptoms of Marine Velvet as well...

Trigger suddenly hiding and not eating.

You hold and touch your trigger? Wow.. most people use gloves when putting their hands in a trigger tank. Wanting to be touched or scratched coupled with the lack of eating sounds like he could be sick. Picasso triggers don't show marine velvet or ick like darker colored fish. Is he...

Trigger suddenly hiding and not eating.

Any changes to the tank? New fish, light, anything? Test your water lately? I love my Piccasso Trigger and they are not shy so if he is hiding there is a reason. I would start with checking your water for Ammonia, Phosphates, Nitrites etc..

    Skimmer selection

Reef Octopus are all I will run. I strayed due to cost once over the years and was convinced that spending the money for a good skimmer is the way to go. What Size tank? You are showing pictures of free standing skimmers so I assme you dont have a sump?

    High Nitrates in old tank

Good advice and thank you Dolphinfan76. I didin't realize the silversides were equal to 5 cubes. I introduced them to keep the aggressive Triggers away from a Foxface and it seemed to work. I will reduce the frequency I use them. One more nugget I forgot to include. When I saw this Tank 4...

    High Nitrates in old tank

I have a tall 200 gallon tank with a 60 gallon sump and I have extremely high Nitrates. The fish were grossly over fed for years by my (now) wife. All other important readings, Nitrite, Ammona, PH are at the needed levels (0,0,8.4). I would love some advice from anyone on my process I have...
