Wasn't planning on doing it, lol, I was just curious as to why since when you get a fw fish you just add water to the bag and then dump the whole bag in. Trying to learn all I can! :D

Thanks for the help, thumping the thing is giving more consistent results - I don't see any air bubbles, but when I thump it the needle does go to the same place every time so it is probably very small bubbles. I'll keep trying it and if it gets too frustrating I'll look into the refractometer.

Stupid question for the day - why are you not supposed to add the water in the bag to your aquarium when you order from swf? Does it have chemicals in it?

What are ya'lls opinions on this hydrometer? I can use it five times in a row and get a different reading every time. Am I using it wrong or is this thing crap? It's all they sell around here to test your salinity.

When I find a picture I want for an avatar I just paste it into the computer basic art program in the accesories folder and reduce it until it will fit and then save as a jpeg. It works for photos, but artwork will get distorted when you reduce it this way.

Dead shrimp, thanks for asking - lfs tried to talk me into using a live fish and I gave her a nice long "talking to" about just why I wouldn't do that. It's a new little shop right up the road from me which makes it very convenient for me, but I'll only buy supplies there - never fish.

Tx so much - I really appreciate it, I just thought my ammonia would have been higher. One thing I realized I forgot to buy was a thermometer so I guess it's back to the lfs in the morning!

Well, after looking and thinking and researching and thinking some more, I decided to start with a 29 gal. tank. I think it should be fine as all I want is some live rock, a percula clown and a cleaner shrimp. so - we set the aquarium up, filled up with ro water, added instant ocean, and let...

If the large chains are determined to sell saltwater fish, I would think the least they could do is make the aquarium packages that include everything you need for their care along with a manual. They do that for the f/w, why not s/w? Lesleybird, the PetSmart in NC will not sell s/w fish...

Can they go together? Any advice on the care of either one?

Just a curiosity question - how long have people been using ro/di in saltwater aquariums and what did they do before the now easy accessibility and cost of ro/di? Were all aquariums in terrible shape then?
