i have a 55 gallon tank im wondering how many fish can i put in it saftley and how do i know when the fish i have are to big for my tank

In my new 55 gal I have a large air stone plus 2 hob filter and a skimmer. Do I still need a power head? Also Im thinking about changing to 1 hob filter and a fluval cannister for more power. Does any of this negate the ned for a power head??
