Ok, so I have my 75 gal tank. Is it ok to fill it with water, sand, add salt and maybe throw a power head on and let it run for a week? It will be atleast a week before I can get my protein skimmer. Will the water be fine?

    Updates on new SW tank

    Filtration

Thanks Capt. The one you recommended I assume is a protein skimmer??? $150 isn't too bad...The bak pak I pricesd was about $150, but it was only for up to 60 gal. The dual I believe was almost $200.

    Filtration

According to the manufacturer, the bak pak 2 is for tanks up to 60 gal. I have a 75 gal. Also the bak pak are kind of pricey. Anyone know of any good ones for about $100?

    Live sand a must?

Wow!! So if what your saying is true, then a tank should run from 30-60 days empty until it is cycled??

    How much sand?

How much do you think the Fiji pink will run?

What kind of Pro Skimmer should I get? I have a 75 gal tank and want to find a quality skimmer that won't cost a fortune? Any thoughts??

    How much sand?

What does everyone think of using dead sand as a base, with live sand on top? What works best for dead sand? What is a good amount of sand (in inches) to put in a tank? I have read 4 is good, but seems deep. Ps....My tank is 75 gal.

    2" sand bed?

Please clarify. First you said that dead sand looks bad but then later you say you used a dead sand/live sand combination for your tank. I am assuming your first comment is referring to the use of dead sand alone. I would use a combination my self and assume this would save money, while still...

I keep hearing about seed sand-where do I find it? How much does it run?

    Newbie-75 Gallon Tank

I definitely want to take a shot at a reef tank, not sure what types of things I want in it other that community fish. My main concern as i keep looking into things, is start up cost. It is amazing the price differance in things from 1 store to another. I may have to go to 10 stores to get...

    2" sand bed?

I've heard you can go to Home Depot and buy a sand that will work great for fish tanks, is this true? Ofcourse, it's not live, but do you think it's possible?
