    Oxygenation

Is it necessary to have my return flow near the surface so that it creates ripples in the water for oxygenation or does my skimmer provide sufficient oxygen when it mixes bubbles in the water?

    tiny particles floating in water

I just encountered a similar problem and mine was caused by the skimmer. If you can shut your skimmer off and the bubbles disappear then it's probably the same thing. If you can get your return pump as far away from the skimmer as possible and cover the return flow opening of the pump with a...

    Thickness of Substrate

I am hearing different opinions on how thick you want the substrate on the bottom of the tank. I have a FOWLR no reef yet. My live sand is 2-3 inches thick. Is that too much?

I have a FOWLR tank and have some inverts such as hermits, snails, brittle stars, and cleaner clams in the tank as well. I was told by a guy at one LFS that I wanted to increase my SG to about 1.024 for the inverts. Yesterday I visited another LFS and they advised me to reduce the SG to around...

    Micro-Bubbles

I have thousands of tiny micro-bubbles that are coming from my return flow and my power heads and they are clouding up my tank. What can I do to eliminate this problem? Is this harmful to the inhabitants of the tank? Thanks!

I took the advice of a guy at a LFS who told me to raise my SG from the current 1.022 to 1.024 for the invertebrates in my tank. Now that I have raised it to 1.024 I have noticed a reduced visibility in my tank due to all of the salt particles that are everywhere. Is this a normal occurance or...

Thanks again for the help. I won't buy any fish from PetSmart but if they carry the same filter that the LFS does for less then why not right? Have a beer for me, I'm at work!
