    Reef safe eels

I agree rocks first then sand. I have a friend with a snowflake eel in his tank. It is for the most part docile and doesn't really mess with the other fish. However when food is in the tank it will chase the scent and bites anything it comes in contact with. What he has done to avoid the...

    More Light Questions

I have a 125g tank. Unfortunately I cannot have an open top (it would be disaster in the making). Since all three open sections will have glass what type of lights would be best? This tank will for the most part be a fish only tank, the only invertebrate life for the most part will be urchins...

Is it possible to have too much filtration and flow rate?

Sorry about the misleading headline. So I take it the 563gph flow is not too much for 125g. Thanks

Is it possible to have too much filtration and flow rate?

I have a 125g tank, I'm going to get a fluval. The fx6 looks awesome, its rated at 563gph for the flow rate. Is that too much? My tank will have little live rock and the fish load will be somewhat lite to moderate. Most fish will be "active swimming" for length of tank.

Start up Sand and Live Rock

A friend of mine is planning on giving me his used sand and live rock in his current running aquarium. I'm a little concerned about acquiring these. Although he has never had any type of disease in his saltwater aquarium it has been neglected. I'm worry about the types of bacteria or the...

Thanks for the advice, seems like fluval is the most effective with aquariums. Does the company make bigger ones for bigger tanks?

Great, one more question. The light source. I have been looking online for a light fixture. Some are running two different bulbs and some have three. Some have fans built inside, some do not. Is there any particular setup that is prefered?

Wow, this is awesome. I did not expect this response from all of you. With the advice given would it be wrong to have a canister and live rock?

I'm a bit nervous about drilling into this aquarium. However, it does make a lot of sense do. Seems the sump is the way to go. I'll go with the cannister filter. is there a particular brand I should get?

I'm going to set this up as a community tank for the most part. I'm sure there will be ups and downs but that is the basic goal. Decided not to go with a coral reef setup. With that said there will be some invertebrates such as anemones starfish, and urchins. The aquarium is old school, so there...
