Eels wouldnt bother your coral but most would either eat your inverts or your fish, depending on what type you were thinking of getting.

Well, what kidns wont eat te inverts or fish? Im thinking standard cleaner shrimp, snails, hermits, starfish, and eventually clams. Reef safe peaceful fish.

I can't answer this question but I am interested in an eel that wouldn't eat cleaner inverts as well...

Every single eel that I have ever had over the years has always been with corals, even in their SPO tank. I have never had any problems.

what about getting a convict gobie aka engineer gobie, they look like an eel but wont eat inverts or fish.

I really like them! I wasnt planning on gtting one, just curious because I was readig threads in the Agressive Fish forum, but I am really considering it now. Thanks!

if you really feel like shelling out the $ then look into the dwarf golden moray eel. They are very expensive but dont get any bigger than 12 inches and any thicker than a marker. plus the look pretty cool.

I have 2 convicts and to be honest I hate them. They are diggers and keep digging under my live rock and making the fall over which has trapped and killed a clown fish and a bleenie. I bought them when they were about 2in long now 10in and am ready to take back to fish store so I can have a beautiful safe tank. I do have to say they are hardy strong fish and never bothered any of my other fish except like I said dropping rocks on them.

I agree rocks first then sand. I have a friend with a snowflake eel in his tank. It is for the most part docile and doesn't really mess with the other fish. However when food is in the tank it will chase the scent and bites anything it comes in contact with. What he has done to avoid the unexpected death of the fish is he stick feeds the eel with a small ridged plastic rod. I agree with 17cuddlefish mentioned the dwarf golden moray eel is very expensive yet very cool. They have a small mouth and is somewhat compatible with reef fish. I think you are playing with fire when getting an eel for a tank that you dont want to have anything consumed.

I had a snowflake for years. Best eel for any tank. Eventually carpet surfed. He would eat snails. I fed him with a stick. At night they are all over. Just cap the tank. He didnt bother other fish. Very cool addition
