    LED vs. T5HO

Nice corals. Just wondering about lighting recently. I see a T5ho 8bulb 54w 48" unit on a horticulture site for about $175. I can replace the bulbs over time with ATIs. It's not that you "won" the debate, Pegasus. It just comes down to money, growth and proven techniques for me. I still...

    LED vs. T5HO

Some would argue it's not the spectrum that is the issue but the PAR and PUR values. I see a lot of tank of the month SPS tanks that run T5s and halides instead of LEDs. That can't just be coincidence,...

    LED vs. T5HO

I've been reading a lot on lighting recently. The basic argument is that LEDs are for show and T5's are for grow. Can someone elaborate?

    New Hobbyist: 20 Gallon?

A basic four bulb T5 unit with ATI bulbs would be fine. You can get the unit for under $200 at pet mountain. The ATI bulbs are $~20 each on Amazon.

    protein skimmer

You also might want to check that the control valve is wide open so that the water can drain back into your tank. Have you been using zany chemicals or epoxy?

    New 75g Reef Tank

LOL - it must be. Though, we pretty much never argue about money. It's more like time/schedule that we don't agree on. The tank lights are out. I'm ready to pack it in for the night. Night all.

    New 75g Reef Tank

Well, today the green filamentous algae started to appear. It's short for now. I expected a lot less then what is growing. But, that's ok, nothing a couple of turbos can't fix. I'll be getting that GFO and adding sand and rock rubble to my refugium pretty soon. Depending on if my cycle is done...

    Order of introduction

You forgot the beauty But you get the idea. Again, I have no scientific links. It's just the order that I would choose. Wait for others to chime in. I'm more of a coral guy and equipment/diy/handyman.

    Beard Club

Anyone in the Beard Club? I joined officially back in November of last year. I threw my last razor away and decided that I would go for the yeard. A one year beard. Who's with me?

You know your a fish keeper when you,... Wonder if the blue lights in people's windows at night is a salt tank instead of assuming otherwise. Your electric bill is the same as your car note. You have to hide receipts from your spouse/bf/gf after you go to the LFS. You have more money...

    10k or 12k?

I prefer 12-14k looks. Too white and it washed the colors out. Too blue and it does the same (at least for my eyes) +1 to bang guys suggestion

There are several different species of bubble algae. Post a pic and we can help ID it and set up an action plan and give you more info on it.

    Hanna Checkers

My LFS uses a basic API saltwater master test kit. I'm too cheap to buy the $30 test kit when I know that all I have to do is wait a sufficient amount of time and watch the biological nutrient signs for nitrate and phosphate.

    New 75g Reef Tank

I'll probably get the high capacity GFO. Jebao will get me by for a while until something better comes along. I am using what I got until I pay off what I just purchased. I don't necessarily like the Kessils. They are ok. I've seen them in action. But I think I really want to try out the...

    Hanna Checkers

Currently I use Seachem titration tests for calcium alkalinity and magnesium. I use my live fish store (LFS) for basic stuff like nitrate, ammonia and pH. The deeper I get into keeping SPS corals, I'll start picking up a Hanna checker here and there. The initial cost is just too much for me to...

    New 75g Reef Tank

First signs of microscopic life in the tank today. Diatoms growing on the front glass. My skimz skimmer is starting to pull green gunk out of the tank even though the tank is still cycling. Good sign it's a great skimmer. I'm looking forward to the end of the month to run a test or two on it...

    i need help.

More than likely it's a male clownfish. All clownfish are born male and the most dominant in the group will turn female. If there is nothing to dominate over then there is no point in changing from male to female. Just a little FYI.
