    Live Mysid shrimp

50 parts per thousand? I know 32ppt is about 1.026 salinity,... What temperature? In Louisiana it stays in the 100s for 30-40 days every year. Your talking 70s-80s springtime for us?

    Lighting / Canopy Advice

Good job pointing that out. Yes, get LEDs designed for saltwater tanks to put over your saltwater tank. I also suggest a GFCI unit to protect yourself against major electric shocks.

    Reverse Osmosis Questions

Looks like they use chlorine as the main disinfectant but there is other stuff as well. The main thing that concerns me is that their most recent tests are three years old. Either way, I would run at least one refillable catalytic carbon filter, one 5micron sediment filter, a 75gpd membrane...

    Lighting / Canopy Advice

A fish only tank doesn't need high powered lights. A Marineland doublebright is fine and will make the colors Pop like you want. And they are cheap.

    Reverse Osmosis Questions

A TDS meter will give you a good idea of how dirty your tap water is. Remember that your goal is zero TDS. A TDS meter will also not tell you what's in your water, it just shows how conductive your water is. Pure water does not conduct electricity, therefore there is 0 conductivity. Contact...

    seeding my old live rock

When you washed and dried it, you killed everything. Any useful organisms are now dead. No longer does it have sea life, and therefore is no longer "live". Take a dry rock with no life and put it in an artificial environment to culture and it is seeded base rock. Take a dry rock and put it out...

    BioCube 29G Lighting Help/Advice Needed!!

I would start lighting out on a new tank to be between 6 to 8 hours total and after the cycle moving it between 8 to 10 hours total. The LEDs could be on an hour before daylight and an hour or two after dark. When I talk about "after dark" that's whatever you are programming your lights to go...

    seeding my old live rock

Seeded base rock is technically not and never will be true live rock. Live rock comes directly from the fringes of coral reefs and has way more diversity of life on it than cultured base rock. So, no, a live fish store will probably not pay top price for seeded base. In fact, my LFS sells...

    New 75g Reef Tank

i figured out where I am placing the kalk stirrer. Going to try to get it installed some time next month. I found the first starfish in the tank. I am going to order a bulk pack of GFO for my phosphate reactor and get it online so that I might can avoid any algae outbreaks. My maxijet...

    seeding my old live rock

29g biocube makes nice all inclusive tanks. A lot of mods can be made to them to suit your needs. You won't be able to fit that many pounds of rock in a small setup, so I suggest using about 15-20 pounds of base rock and mixing it with 10-15 pounds live rock. It takes time for rock to be...

    New 75g Reef Tank

I have been searching a lot about LEDs and I'm thinking about ordering a couple from a group buy on the Internet. They said the spectrum is pretty close to the Radeons that I like a lot. I got a few things in the mail. A kalk stirrer and a skimz mini monzter SN123. The skimmer came in a long...
